Part 4

"You're absolutely sure?" Giles asked for the thirteenth time. The others sat silently in the library, still in shock. Xander nodded.

"Even more sure than I was the last time you asked me," he said sarcastically. Giles sighed, taking off his glasses and rubbing the bridge of his nose. He had to face it. His Slayer was gone. Killed by Angelus, who had changed her into the thing she was supposed to destroy. Tears welled up in his eyes, but he brushed them aside, determined to stay strong for the Slayerettes1 sake.

"Giles, you know she's gonna come after us," Willow said softly, speaking the words everyone else was thinking.

"Yes, I know. It's only a matter of time. We must be extremely cautious," he said warily, dropping down into one of the library chairs. He put his head in his hands and tried very hard not to sob. He couldn't help it though, the tears just came and he couldn't stop them. He heard chairs scrape against the linoleum and felt a pair of arms wrap around him. He looked up to see Willow, crying silently, peering down at him. Cordelia was being comforted by Xander and Oz was standing by Willow, rubbing her back.

They cried for their lost friend, the Slayer, fallen from glory. She had lost the battle between good and evil and had succumbed to evil. They knew the next Slayer called could never be like her. They would miss her loyalty, her wit, her cheerfulness, her personality. They would miss her terribly.

They were more concerned with staying alive now. They knew Buffy and Angelus would be coming after them.

Little did they know that their time was up.

"Will she show up already?" Buffy groaned. They were waiting for Cordelia to return home from the library. They had already killed Oz, wasting no time. He hadn't said a word when Buffy and Angelus sucked him dry. They made it painless for him and left his body for Willow to find. Their next victim was to be the cheerleader. She had gotten Angelus to give in with a promise and she was the one who was going to kill her. They stood in the bushes that lined the Chase driveway. The lights in the house were mostly out.

Buffy leaned over and kissed him as a way to pass the time. They got wrapped up in it and only when they heard a car pull into the driveway did they remember why they had been there. The car door opened and Cordelia stepped out. She sniffled and closed the door.

"Aww, Cordelia Chase crying for me. I'm touched," Buffy said as she ambled out of their hiding place. Cordelia looked at her in surprise and fear, mascara running down her cheeks. "You even let your makeup smear. That's so sweet."

"Stay away from me," Cordelia cried, holding up a cross. Angelus crept up behind her and grabbed her, wrapping his strong arms around her body and knocking the cross from her hand. She cried out and looked at Buffy with fear in her eyes.

"Love the new look, Buff," she said boldly. "What's with all the slutty clothes?"

Buffy laughed and walked up to her. She stared long and hard into her eyes and Cordelia was forced to look away. "I'm trying be just like you," she said, touching Cordelia's nose. "Before I kill you, I thought I might take a stroll down memory lane with you. You were the first person to be nice to me when I moved here, but it was just an act. You thought I'd go and be one of your little followers and you also wanted to get to know me because I was so much cooler than you you couldn't stand it."

"Oh please," Cordelia said snottily. Buffy slapped her hard in the face and she stood stunned.

"Don't interrupt. So when I started hanging with the 'losers'--quote, unquote--you didn't want to be near me. Then I saved your ass from another one of your victims and you couldn't even be nice to me? Gimme a break. And then trying to take Angel away from me was just plain stupid. He didn't want some self-absorbed, snobby bitch, he wanted me. And that just killed you," she paused and walked to the side of her to kiss Angelus. She turned and whispered in Cordelia's ear, "You lost, Cordy. You're not the Slayer of anything but other people's self confidence. You make me sick and I'm gonna do the world a huge favor by killing you."

Cordelia squirmed in Angelus' arms, trying desperately to break free. He just squeezed tighter. Buffy grinned as tears began leaking down the May Queen's cheeks and she walked back to face her, stroking her face gently.

"Cor, don't cry. I know you're gonna miss the shoe sale at the mall. Sorry about that. Bye bye, bitch," Buffy laughed, then changed into game face and licked her lips, exposing her fangs. Cordelia shrieked in horror as Buffy kissed her forehead, then her neck. She bit in hard, drinking the blood of the bitch of Sunnydale.

She sucked her almost dry and back away. Angelus changed and bit into her neck, drinking the rest of it. Buffy watched as the light from Cordelia's eyes faded and she drew in her last rasped breath. They dropped the body and walked away, Buffy tucked neatly under Angelus' arm.

"That was lots of fun," Buffy said simply as they continued on to their next destination.

Angelus looked down at her and saw her evil grin. "Are you still hungry, baby?" she asked him, slipping an arm around his waist.

"Nah, I'm good for now," he replied.

They stopped in front of the Rosenberg house. Buffy saw Giles' car moving slowly down the street and knew that he had just dropped off Willow. Together they went over to her bedroom window and climbed the tree outside of it. They stepped onto the balcony, waiting for her to enter her room.

She walked in, closing the door behind her and sagging against it. She stifled a sob and moved to throw her coat on the bed when something caught her eye.

"Oz?" she whispered as she stared down at his cold, slightly blue body. She reached a shaky hand out to touch his face, then noticed the bite marks on his neck. "Oh, God..."

"Will, he won't help you," Buffy said as she opened Willow's French doors and let herself in. Willow gasped and stared at her best friend.

"How...I mean...why...how did you get in? I didn't invite you," Willow said shakily, backing up as Buffy advanced on her.

"You didn't...but your Mom did," she grinned and Willow felt tears crawling down her face as she watched the body of her best friend being controlled by a demon. She continued to back up until she could not anymore. Buffy walked up to her and grabbed her violently. Willow tried to cry out but Buffy clamped a hand down over her mouth.

"No need to make a scene, Will. Come on, we have someone else to pick up," she grinned and shoved Willow out the door. Angelus caught her and lifted her up. She tried to struggle but Buffy hit her in the head. She sagged against Angelus and they walked to Xander's house.

"Hello, Mrs. Harris," Buffy said sweetly when Xander's mother answered the door. "Is Xander here?"

"Yes, Buffy, he is. Come on in," she invited. Buffy grinned as she stepped over the threshold and thanked Xander's mother. She walked up the stairs to Xander's room and threw the door open.

"What a sight," she said as she saw Xander standing in his boxer. He grabbed a t-shirt and quickly pulled it over his head. "Aww...you don't have to be shy, Xand," she said as she walked up to him.

"Stay away from me!" he cried desperately as Buffy grabbed him and held a knife to his throat.

"Let's go. You try to call for help, I'll slit your throat," she said coldly as they walked out the door and down the stairs. Mrs. Harris waved to them, watching TV and never turning around. They walked out the door and met up with Angelus and a still-unconscious Willow. Together they walked to the mansion in silence. They dismissed all the guards and told all the minions to leave and not return for three days. Soon it was just Buffy, Angelus, Spike, Drusilla, Willow, and Xander. Spike raised an eyebrow when he saw Willow being carried and Xander being half-dragged into Angelus' bedroom. The door slammed shut and he shrugged, turning back to the paper.
