The Government's Role
Because online gambling is not officially regulated by state laws, it is nearly impossible at this point to tax any of its revenue. It has become one of the more controversial subjects of online gambling being that "the government (is) earning 0% tax money on all online gambling...(t)his is especially a problem with Congress, who is trying to prohibit online gambling altogether" according to http://www.uri.edu/personal/awel5922/gambling.index.html. This means the government is losing a large sum of money with this inability to receive any of the company's profits. This also means that less money, which could be going into state and local communities and could provide aid to future problems to the country, is going to contribute to the United States and its citizens.  Not surprisingly, more and more pressure to ban online gambling is in discussion.
