They are from the state of Iowa, in north-western USA, and are just abouts the most famous thing to come out of this state. They were formed in 1995 by current members Paul Gray, Shawn Crahan and former member Josh, and the band has undergone more changes than Michael Jackson's face to become what they are today. They combine the sounds of heavy metal and thrash metal to become the amazing noise-machine that they are today.
Slipknot released their debut album `Mate Feed Kill Repeat` in 1996, however due to their budget there were only 2000 copies made. This is why a lot of people have never heard of this album.
Soon, they attracted the attention of major metal record company Roadrunner Records. In 1999, Slipknot released their self-titled album through Roadrunner, and it became a major worldwide hit. They have released 2 singles in from this album, `Spit it Out` and `Wait and Bleed`.
2 years later, in 2001, Slipknot released their 3rd album, Iowa, which was named after their home state. This album was an instant hit, and reached the top of the UK album charts in its first week, making it the heaviest album to have claimed the No.1 spot. The singles `My plague` and `Left Behind` were released later on.
Recently, there have been rumours about Slipknot splitting up, but the band denied this with a message posted on their website, stating that they were not splitting up, and that they would be working on a new album.
Many people claim that Slipknot are a pile of shit who do nothing more than make a hell of a lotta noise. Well if you listen carefully, you would realise that the drums, guitars, vocals and bass are all very well put together. Besides, they are a metal band, and metal bands tend to be loud and heavy. You dont often get heavy metal bands using violions and pianos.... And another thing, some pop-loving twats say that `bands` such as Blue and Blazin Squad are better than Slipknot, well listen to this muthafuckers, SLIPKNOT WRITE THEIR OWN MUSIC, PLAY THEIR OWN MUSIC AND MANAGE THEIR OWN MUSIC, TWATS LIKE BLAZING SQUAD DONT WRITE THEIR OWN MUSIC, DONT PLAY THEIR OWN MUSIC, ALL THEY DO IS SING, AND TAKE ALL THE F*CKING CREDIT. THEY ARE COMPLETELY USELESS, AND HAVE NO TALENTS, THEYRE TAKING ADVANTAGE OF OTHER PEOPLE(PEOPLE THAT WRITE AND PLAY THEIR SONGS) AND MAKING MONEY FOR THEMSELVES. Try arguing against THAT you f*cking Blazin Squad fanatics.
