Derivatives of Carbohydrates

Compounds that thave their structures slightly deviated from the standard ones are called the derivatives.

Deoxyribose is the derivative of ribose. Glycerol and pyruvic acids are derivatives of other monosaccharides.

Derivatives of monosaccharides can be condensed to form polymers. Chitin is the example of this type of material.
