TECHNOLOGY EDUCATION

Technology Education is the study of technology through industrial art courses. Students are provided the technical skills and knowledge necessary for decisions in a society that is ever changing. In addition, skills are imparted which are useful to all in maintenance and leisure activities of daily life.

Inventions in Time

1/2 credit
Prerequisite: None
Grades 10-12
What is the greatest invention of all time? Cheese? The bicycle? Television? You decide! Inventions in Time will give you the opportunity to explore the greatest (and not so great) inventions of man (and woman). Make your decision, build your case, build a model, and present your findings to an impartial panel. You will put your hands and mind to work in this exciting, fast-paced voyage of discovery. Where you end up is entirely up to you. Students will apply industrial technology and computer technology while enhancing their research and communication skills. A great course for the independent learner or anyone who wants to develop or improve his/her skills in this area.

Computer Assisted Design I

1/2 credit
Prerequisite: None
Grades 9-12
This half-year course emphasizes computer-generated drawing and product design. This course will use industry standard software, a program utilized worldwide.  Included are options for mechanical, geometric, product and architectural drawings.
Highlights of CAD areas:
Wireframe or solid modeling on demand, construct solid primitives such as a block, cone, cylinder, sphere, and torus. Also: Perform Boolean operations such as subset, intersect, or union.
Extrude, sweep, or revolve geometric into a solid.
Apply constant and variable fillets, chambers and blends to solids.
Utilize fall 3D model to 2D drawing associatively.
  Dynamically rotate rendered models.

Manufacturing Technology
1 credit
Prerequisite: None
Grades 9-12
This course is designed to be a one-year program to acquaint the student with the basic elements of manufacturing as a managed body of activities. It also familiarizes the student with the seven areas of manufacturing systems, materials, process and management

Construction Technology

1/2 credit
Prerequisite: None
Grades 9-12
This semester course will acquaint the student with construction systems. The student will become familiar with the seven elements of construction - people, information, time, materials, capital, tools and energy. The student will explore the various types of construction and the applications of specific construction systems and utilities.

Energy Technology
1/2 credit
Prerequisite: None
Grades 9-12
This course is designed to be a one-semester course to acquaint the student with energy sources, applications and alternatives. The student will learn how we extract, process, convert and use them for power. The course will deal with conservation and the impact the changing energy picture will have on society and what the future holds as energy sources evolve. The course will also cover career opportunities in the energy field.

Power Technology
1/2  credit
Grade 9-12
Prerequisite: None
This one-year course will acquaint the student with the many ways of transmitting and controlling power. It also familiarizes the student with the design and production of power mechanics. This course is designed to promote reasoning and communication skills that aid in problem solving. Special attention will be given to physics and mathematics as they relate to the study of power.

Design Technology

1/2 credit
Prerequisite: None
Grades 9-12
In this half-year class, the student will design and build a product with emphasis on the ergonomics involved with the particular product being developed.
