PHYSICAL EDUCATION

Physical Education
Prerequisite: None
Grades 9-12
Credit:  .5 (classes meet daily for one semester).  Students may elect more if schedule permits.
Through participation in high school physical education, students will have an opportunity to learn new skills, develop teamwork, enhance their physical well being and unwind from the rigors of the academic world.

Conditioning
1/2 credit
Grades 11-12
This course will educate students in fundamental principles involving fitness and performance.  Units in weight training, pliometric exercises, nutrition, and cardiovascular training will be incorporated into the curriculum.  Students will develop their own personal exercise program as a final requirement of the course.  This course is recommended for students considering college programs in physical therapy, athletic training, sports science, or physical education.

Physical Education Credit for Varsity Sports Participation
Student Athletes who complete a full season of participation at the varsity level on an LHS sports team are eligible to apply for physical education credit according to the following guidelines:
� Students must complete a physical education credit for varsity sports participation form and submit it to their guidance counselor.  This form must be approved by the varsity coach and athletic director.
� One quarter (1/4) credit will be awarded for each season of varsity sports participation.
� Students may apply a total of one half (1/2) credit, or two seasons of varsity sports participation to their graduation requirements for physical education.
� Only students in grades 11 and 12 are eligible to receive credit for varsity sports participation.
� Sports participation credit may not be used as general elective credit.

Fitnes Through Field Games and Team Sports

Prerequisite: None
Grades 11-12
Students will participate in a variety of team sports and related games such as soccer, ultimate Frisbee, flag football, team handball, capture the flag and speedball.  Indoor sports include basketball, pilo polo, volleyball and related games.  Games where the aerobic workout is camouflaged is FUN.  Emphasis will be on teamwork, game skills and fitness.

Personal Fitness

Prerequisite:  None
Grades 11-12
Participants will work on improving their present physical condition by partipation in activities such as yoga, pilates, fitness job/walks, weight room workouts, nutrition study, and dual sports such as badminton and tennis.

Nutrition, Dance and Self-Defense

Prerequisite:  None
Grades 11-12
"The Passive Agressive" approach to getting in shape.  This course will divide the majority of the semester time between nutrition, self-defense and dance.

Advanced Training and Conditioning
1/2 credit
Prerequisite:  None
Grades 11-12
This course will incorporate the Bigger, Faster, Stronger Total Program Curriculum.  Included in the course is a complete speed, plyometric, agility, flexibility, and weight training program.  This course is designed for students who want to improve physical performance and increase their understanding of training techniques.
