Here are some unicorns you might recognize!
There are a few unicorns that made there way to fame throughout time, and this part of the site will give them a bit of credit. You may not recgonize all or any of them, but they are all very important unicorns.
First of all, my personal favorite, the un-named unicorn from Peter S. Beagle's The Last Unicorn. This started out as a book, but in 1981 it was made into a children's movie. It's the story of one unicorn, the very last one, searching for the rest of her kind, which have been captured by the evil King Haggard and his Red Bull. Along with a clumsy magician,Schmendrick, and a middle-aged peasant woman, Molly, the unicorn travels to Haggard's castle to save her fellow unicorns. However, when the Red bull attacks, Schmendrick is forced to turn the Unicorn into a human to save her.
Though fearful and revolted by her new human form, the unicorn allows herself to remain as such so that she and her companions can enter Haggard's castle and become his entertainment. However, when Haggard's son, Lir, falls for the unicorn, known as the Lady Amalthea in her human form, Amalthea begins to love him, and forgets her past as a unicorn. If she becomes fully moral, her quest will be destroyed, and there will be no more unicorns left on Earth.
This is another favorite of mine, a book by Bruce Coville called Into the Land of the Unicorns. It's about a girl named Clara, who stumbles into the world of Luster, where she joins a young unicorn on a quest for the Unicorn Queen. This is a great book, written for young-adults, though I believe it can be enjoyed by both older and younger.
This is a movie which I'm dumb-struck and ashamed to say has unicorns and Tom Cruise in it and I have NOT seen!!! I stumbled upon a review for it while I was looking up picutres of The Last Unicorn. It's supposedly about Tom Cruise and a gang of elves who go off to save the unicorns and Tom Cruise's girlfriend (No, no, not me, the other one ^_~) from some evil guy who wants to screw up the world by riding it of all goodness an light. Sounds catchy, and I now MUST see it! I'll try to post a better review when I do. =P
Well, I know there are many other famous unicorns who deserve to be mentioned, but that's all I can think of for the moment. I'll add to this page later. In the mean time, if you think of any, please drop me a line and I'll add them. Thanks! ^_^
