Sailormoon
"For love and justice!
A pretty soldier in a sailor suit!
Sailor Moon!
I punish you in the name of the moon!"
- Sailormoon R movie (sub)
With these words, Sailormoon stands ready to defeat all manner of villains, from the Kisenian Flower to youma such as Pox or Polite Society, to cardians like Minotaur, Mophead, or Four Face. Even henchmen like the four generals or the major villains, such as Wiseman were possible targets for punishment for injustices committed against the helpless or innocent.
The Sailormoon anime series does not make it clear whether the Moon Princess used the Sailormoon persona that would become instrumental in the survival of the planet Earth in later years. While the other Sailors were shown to have fought the armies of Queen Beryl during the battle that spelt the end of the Silver Millennium, Sailormoon was not shown. The ginzuishou at that time was in Queen Serenity's possession, and without it, Sailormoon's powers are limited to appeals to the heart, and her tiara.
As Sailormoon, the personality flaws that would seem to make Usagi a liability as a hero fade into the background for the most part, and her purity shines through. She will fight for her friends unless it's a hopeless cause, and in that event, she will surrender before allowing harm to come to them. In fact, Sailormoon is willing to sacrifice her life for that of her friends.
It is this purity that powers most of Sailormoon's abilities. This is because for the most part,
Sailormoon uses artifacts from the Moon Kingdom which seem to be attuned to purity. This would explain why some of these artifacts were used by both Queen Serenity and Sailormoon.
So, Sailormoon's powers really come from her heart...they are simply channeled through the various artifacts she uses and the ways in which the energy is used depends on what command
Sailormoon gives the artifact.
However, this is a tricky thing, because in order for Sailormoon to sustain a channeled power
for very long, the artifact she is using (in most cases, the Imperium Silver Crystal or "ginzuishou") has to continue to get power from her, and since it has no intelligence in and of itself, it can not tell whether drawing the power will be safe...it depends on the user to simply know when to quit. This was why Sailormoon died while saving herself and her friends from Fiore's
asteroid in the Sailormoon R movie.
It was Fiore's final gift to Mamoru after he was freed from the evil influences of the Kisenian Flower that gave Sailormoon her life.
