Homework Management

The following homework management plan for the classroom was part of a 'FL Methods' classroom exercise. As a pre-service teacher I combined comments and experiences from my in-service classmates to make up the homework rules listed below. I also included notes I had made to myself while observing teachers during field experience observations.
The homework rules will be discussed at the beginning of the schoolyear with the students. Both the students and the parents will receive a copy for their own information and records.

Homework must always be completed in the time specified. Occasional exceptions are granted, if accompanied by a written or verbal explanation from the parent or legal guardian. In any case, homework must always be completed and brought to class.

Homework will always be checked.

Homework can be checked by peers in class. In this case it is the student's responsibility to check someone's homework and to have their homework checked by someone.

Group homework will always be graded based on three things: 1) self evaluation 2) peer evaluation 3) teacher's evaluation.

During any student's absence, extra handouts will be collected in the blue "Outbox" until they are collected upon the student's return, or until a parent, sibling or designated friend comes to retrieve them.

It is the absent student's responsibility to catch up the work he or she has missed.

Homework assignments are always available at the class webpage.

Over the weekend there will be no written exercises, only reading exercises. Always come prepared to discuss one part of the reading.

It is most important that you try your best. If you do not understand something, give it your best shot. Once you have written what you believe is the answer, mark it with a color pencil. Ask me the next day in class and I will try to explain it in a way which might be more understandable to you.
