During the Earth Federation's Operation V, production was begun on experimental units at the Jaburo base using parts manufactured for the RX-78-2 Gundam. Only twenty were constructed with twelve being assigned to the Kojima Battalion in Southeast Asia. Three were used by the 08th MS Team in particular. Because these units were made of spare parts, no replacement parts were available and engineers were required to use anything they could find to get the unit back to the front lines. One example is the RX-79[G]Ez8 Gundam Ez8. There were many differences between the Gundam MPGT, most notably the removal of the Core Block system which was replaced by a regular cockpit in the upper chest. The Gundam MPGT was instrumental in the defeat of the Zeon forces in the Souteast Asia area.
