When the Zeon realized that the deciding battle between the Earth Federation and Principality of Zeon would be fought in space, they redesigned the MS-09 Dom to be use in space. It was not a tremendous task since all that was changed was the method of propulsion and the name. The hover technology was removed from the legs and replaced with standard rocket thrusters. With this upgrade, the Dom became the Rick Dom and replaced the aging MS-06F Zaku II as the primary space combat unit.
