Thank you for your interest in the Peace Pilgrimage from Kathmandu to Lumbini.
This Pilgrimage is being organized by the Nepal Buddhist Association to mark the grand occasion of the Lumbini Shanti Stupa Inauguration on Nov. 3, 2001.
Our founder and teacher, Fuji Guruji, made a vow at Lumbini about 70 years ago to build his first Peace Pagoda there at the Lord Buddhafs birthplace. This year, the 17th anniversary of Gurujifs Nirvana, we see the vow becoming manifest and offer gratitude that Gurujifs virtue continues to lead us.
I am grateful that the Nepal Buddhist Association has offered to organize this Peace Pilgrimage which, I believe, will be like a jewel to offer as decoration to the auspicious occasion of the Shanti Stupa Inauguration. However, practicalities have demanded that the number of participants from abroad be limited to a total of 20 people. Already at least that many have expressed interest in joining the Pilgrimage.
Therefore, I am offering these guidelines in
addition to the information already distributed.
1 All participants come with the understanding that
the sole focus of this Pilgrimage is the Lumbini Shanti Stupa. While
Peace Pilgrimages offer opportunity to explore many worthy issues, this
time we wish to steady our hearts, minds, and prayers on the success of
the November 3rd Inauguration.
2 Any lay person wishing to join this Pilgrimage is
asked to seek out a monk or nun of Nipponzan Myohoji who they know and
receive a recommendation or endorsement for joining this Pilgrimage.
I realize this request is unusual but because this invitation has been
extended worldwide, it is impossible for me to know all applicants personally.
And because of our limited space, I believe this is the best way to bring
us together in the spirit of unity for this Pilgrimage.
I have been asked to organize the participants from
abroad so if you are still interested you can contact me one of three ways.
My friend, Marcus, has generously agreed to assist with e-mails so you
can write to me in care of his e-mail address: [email protected](English
