| Various Forms/Uses of Nanotechnology: | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Nanotechnology appears in various forms. This includes, nanogears, nanotubes, nanorods, nanowires, nanodots, etc. Each, as you might have predicted, are forms of nanotechnology, but each form is slightly different. This is due to their contrasting shapes. For example, nanotubes are shaped as long cylinders, whereas nanodots are small cubes or spheres. Nanorods and Nanowires are one in the same. These nanorods/nanowires are shaped similiarly to nanotubes. However, nanorods are longer and thinner in comparison to nanotubes. These different shapes are used to enhance a certain quality in a material. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||

| Today, many commercial products have been improved due to nanotechnology. Nanotechnology can improve any physical, chemical and solid product. Nanotechnology is used in laminates. For example, in the Audi A4, the windows contain a coat that blocks ultraviolet radiation. Other examples of nanotechnology include light bikes and sailboats, buoyant tennis balls, durable football/hockey pads, golf clubs, ceramics, optical memory (improves cds and dvds) and medicine with a potential help to cure aids. In addition, nanotechnology has impacted the clothing field. For example, nanotex clothes (Eddie Bauer, Lee Jeans, etc.) is improved due to chemical and electromagnetic perbutation or stimuli. This creates a situation where the synthetic open-weaves of the clothes carries away perspiration. Another example of nanoaffected clothing is goretex. Goretex allows water vapor to escape and allows for liquid water to escape. Goretex is polymorphic sheets pierced with holes. It is carbon and similar to teflon. The key to Goretex is that it consists of nanoscale holes, which allow clusters of molecules to pass without water passing. Goretex is often used by campers and athletes. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||
