80s Cars
My personal favorite 80s car would have to be the 1980- 1982 corvette, the ultimate in third gen refinement. They ride rough and loud, the way a corvette should, and in my opinion, they were the last good looking corvette. As far as the '82, we can thank the EPA for the 190 peak HP output and the manditory automatic four speed. We can thank the techs at GM for cutting 250 lbs off the 1980 and '81, resulting in the lightest Corvette up to it's time. Overall, these cars are a real legacy, the last of a legend.
        The 1982 Chevy Corvette
Love them or loathe them, the cars of the 1980s were an integral part of the United States car company's case to prove that they had truly worked out the bugs experienced in domestic cars in the late 60s and throughout the 70s. While Japan cranked out low cost, low output cars in record numbers, U.S. companies, as well as others, were in search of thier "niche" in car production. Most of them were sucessful, some were not (the word YUGO comes to mind). Naturally, during these years of refinement, some truly innovative car designs surfaced. This is a showcase dedicated to the cars of the 80s.
The 1984 Lamborghini Countach 5000S
Oh ya, the Countach 5000S, easily the ultimate in 1980s "Sci-Fi Deco" car body styles, and the world's fastest street legal car apon its realease. Ever since the debut of the origional Countach prototype in the late '70s, They have remained one of the bitchinest cars on the road, and a true sign of the times. In the 80s, if you had one of these bad bullets, you were always the star of the show, where ever you went. now selling for around $50,000 US, they have become much more acessable to the dullards.
Ah, the Ford Festiva, second only to the Geo on the lame U.S. cars list. Released in 1988, it shows the dire need of the American public to become totally lame, and boring as hell apon the closing of the ultimate decade. It offered seating for five (Oompa- Loompa sized) adults, a blazing sub 2 Litre four cylander power plant, front-wheel drive, and the aero-dynamics of a preagnant Emu. Notice the square tail lights and the gray plastic "Impact zone" style bumpers. Remeber the festiva well, or else history will surely repeat itself.
