The next morning we got up early to help with breakfast. That morning I cracked 50 dozen eggs, Jeff scrambled those eggs, we both cooked two 18X24 things of ham, and I made 5 gallons of grits. After breakfast we took a short break, hung out with the guys, and showered. We then got directions to the Statue of Liberty and we hopped on the subway.

We bought tickets for the ferry, and after standing in the hot sun in line, we finally caught that ferry. We went to Liberty Island, saw the Statue up close and then we went to Ellis Island. We got off the ferry at Ellis Island and went through the museum on the island. Since some of our relatives had come through that very place. It started to rain and we hopped on the subway again. This time we went to Little Italy for pizza.

After pizza we again hopped on the subway, but this time we were headed for the Empire State Building. We had been in contact with Jenny and we had planned on meeting in front
building and going up together. After she arrived we all went up to the Empire State Building's observatory and observed =) the lights of the city.
We then took the subway back to the mission and slept. We got up early to help again with breakfast. This time the Canadians were up and helping, so Jeff and I helped out in the stockroom. They had just recieved a shipment of bread, so we put that away. I would stand on a ladder and Jeff would call out what he was throwing, I would catch it and put it in the proper bin.

We finished that job and then went and took showers. We packed up our things and prepared to leave. Before we left the guys had a prayer send off for us. After praying, Jeff and I took the subway to Union Station and boarded our bus for Boston. Higlights of our trip to New York: Staying on the fifth floor of the Bowery (it's a long way up those stairs) Staying at the Bowery and making new friends Having John yell at us for making too much noise in the bathroom Going to Time's Square (seeing Ed sullivan theatre, TRL, etc). Statue of Liberty Seeing the same people from the ferry line at Ellis Island, coming down from the Empire State Bldg. as we were going up, and Luke saying "Do you still want to be a squirrel? (there is a story behind that)" A Canadian lad asking us "if we were new here" in reference to the Bowery since Jeff and I had a few days scruff and no shirts on Seeing all the trendy people and rather strikingly good looking women The whole 60 block walk to the Bowery The whole toilet paper issue at toilets (napkins and envelopes do work people) There are more memories and occurences that what I put in these pages. Jeff and I made lots of new friends, had lots of great experiences, and lots more memories of the Big Apple, our home away from home =)
