Yet Another TR47 Fanfic Chapter 4: Curious Mew
Blade sighed, looking at the computer screen which was showing Joeys vital signs.  Everything seemed normal, although none of the scientists were exactly sure what could be defined as normal, since theyd never cloned a Mew before.  The computer simply took the average of the numbers it recorded and used that to determine what was normal.
Blade stood up and walked over to the holding tank, holding a mug of coffee in his hand, then smiled as he looked at the Mew contained inside.  He walked back over to the computer, then glanced at a graph showing the current brain activity in the same way as a heart monitor.
Ever since Joey had fully developed, her brain activity had been steadily rising.  Blade checked his watch, then glanced at a calendar on the wall.  It had been two weeks since the experiment started.  A beep emitted from the computer broke Blades thought process.  He looked down at the computer screen, taking a sip of coffee at the same time.
Blade nearly spit out his coffee, but managed to swallow it before he did.  He looked at the brain activity again, making sure that his brain wasnt just playing tricks on him.  Sure enough, then graph had spiked sharply and the brain activity had risen to twice the usual level for a few moments.
Blade coughed, then glanced at the number shown.  He manually backed up the graph, then gasped.  The number, which measured the psychic energy produced in the brain, had gone considerably higher than any psychic Pokemon that they had ever seen before.
Blade called over on of the other scientists in the room, then told him to look at the graph shown on the screen.  The scientist had a similar reaction, gasping loudly.
Levels of activity that high have never been recorded before, the scientist mumbled quietly, looking over the numbers on the graph.
Blade pressed a button on the keyboard, and the monitor resumed showing the current brain activity.  It had returned back to an average level, thought it was still a bit on the high side.  The scientist shook his head in amazement, then went back to what he had previously been doing.
Blade took another sip of coffee, then glanced back and forth between the computer and the glass tank.  As he was looking at the tank, another beep came from the computer.  Blade sighed, then glanced back at the computer.  He nearly fell out of his chair in alarm, because the graph had spiked even higher than before.
At this rate, If the Mew survived the rest of the process and learned how to harness its powers, it would surely be the strongest Pokemon ever.  Much stronger than the original Mew, from what the numbers on the graph were showing him.  Team Rocket would be unstoppable . . .

Crystal sat upright, looking around.  It was dark outside and she had been asleep.  She looked up at the moon, then sighed.  It wasnt quite a full moon, but it would be in a few days.  She sighed, then tried in vain to go back to sleep.  For some reason, she couldnt sleep.
After thinking for a few moments, Crystal realized why she couldnt sleep.  She was concerned for the Mew which was imprisoned in the headquarters of Team Rocket.  She didnt want to go back out of fear of being captured, yet something else was urging her to go anyway.
After debating with herself for a few minutes, Crystal finally decided to go back to the headquarters.  She would take the risk.  She hovered off the tree branch, then began flying quickly in the direction of the headquarters.
When Crystal arrived at the headquarters, she used a similar tactic as before, using her psychic powers to conceal herself so that she wouldnt be seen.  She teleported directly to the room containing Joey, then looked around quickly.  Amazingly enough, the room was empty of all scientists.
Crystal walked right over to where Joey was being held.  She hovered into the air so that she was at the same level as the Mew inside of the glass tank.  She could feel the psychic powers emanating from within the tank.  She looked at Joeys face, then circled around the tank.  Much to Crystals surprise, Joey was completely identical to herself, with the exception of the fur color.
Crystal hovered in the air in front of the glass tank, then looked around to make sure that nobody had entered the room.  Crystal looked at Joey, then began channeling her psychic powers, hoping that she could somehow form a telepathic link between herself and Joey.
At first she was unsuccessful.  Crystal began concentrating her powers a bit more, confident that she could form a link.  As she probed deeper into Joeys subconscious, the computer monitoring Joeys brain activity began beeping, the graph spiking sharply upward again.  This time, however, the graph continued monitoring a high amount of activity.  It didnt drop as it had done before.
Crystal began concentrating her psychic powers even stronger, then moments later she got the reaction that she had been hoping for.  A pulse of psychic energy, generated by Joeys subconscious, caused the computer to spike again.  Crystal had successfully formed a link between herself and Joey.
Moments later a feminine voice echoed through Crystals mind, but she heard it as if someone was speaking in her ear.
Who are you? the voice echoed quietly.
My name is Crystal.  What is your name? Crystal responded telepathically.
I have no name, the voice responded.
Well, the people around here seem to refer to you as Joey, Crystal said.
There was a brief pause, then the voice spoke again.  Then I will be known to the world as Joey.
Crystal smiled, then continued the telepathic conversation.  After a few minutes, Crystal sensed a human presence in the room.  She didnt break the link quite yet.  I will return again in due time, Crystal said telepathically.
I look forward to meeting you again, Joey replied.
Crystal broke the link, then looked around the room.  A scientist was seated in front of the computer, watching the screen in astonishment.  Joeys brain activity had been considerable higher during the entire telepathic conversation with Crystal, and now it had dropped off again, returning to its usual level of activity.
Crystal smiled, then teleported back to her home.  Only when she was sitting safely on a large branch high in the trees did she cease using her psychic camouflage.
Crystal smiled, knowing that her goal had been successful.  She would return the next night, and hopefully she would be able to form the link faster than before.  Crystal felt a certain level of contentment, knowing that she now had a friend that was similar to herself . . .

Ever since she had come into existence, Joey only had herself for company.  Her imagination was the only limit.  For her, the only world she knew of was contained inside of her subconscious.  Many would consider it to be a constant dream, but to Joey it was the only world she had.
There was one event in particular that stood out to Joey.  She was lying in the tall grass, soaking in the warmth of the sun, when a figured appeared off in the distance.  Curious, Joey stood up.  She wasnt sure whether she should call out or not.
Joey remained where she was, unsure of what to do.  No other creatures had ever appeared in her dreams before.  As the figure began to come closer, Joey realized that it was a creature similar to herself.
After a few more moments, when the figure was close, Joey finally called out to her.  This was what had generated the psychic pulse, signaling to Crystal that a link had been formed.
It was then that Joey began speaking to the Mew, which responded and identified herself as Crystal.  To Joey, this was quite significant.  She had made her first friend, and was looking forward to when she would see Crystal again.  Joey didnt know about the harsh conditions which awaited her when she would gain consciousness for the first time . . .

Jads sighed, lying on the couch while watching TV.  She was bored to death, because there wasnt much to do when TR47 only had two members.  She switched off the TV, then went to Iras bedroom.  She found him there reading a book about Pokemon.  Jads sat down on the bed next to him, then yawned.
Hey, whats up? Ira asked, looking up from his book.
Absolutely nothing, Jads replied.  Thats the problem.
Ira set down his book, looking at Jads.  Well then, what do you propose that we do to solve that problem?
Jads shrugged her shoulders.  I dont know, anything.
Like what? Ira asked her.
Jads thought for a moment, then smiled a bit.  Well, we could search for Pokemon.
Ira stood up and dropped his book on the night stand, then picked up his backpack.  That sounds like a good idea to me.  Grab your gear.
Jads smiled, then ran to her own bedroom and grabbed her backpack.  Ira met her at the front door, then they walked outside.  Jads was glad to get outside for once, because they had spent most of their time inside of the cabin, doing things like improving the cabin and working on the underground headquarters.
Jads and Ira headed into the forest surrounding the cabin, keeping an eye out for any Pokemon that they could capture.  Jads wished that she had a fire-type since the forest was literally crawling with bug Pokemon.  They had captured a Growlithe during the time that they were working for Team Rocket, but as members, all the Pokemon they caught went to Giovanni.  It was up to him whether or not the members got to keep any of the Pokemon they caught.
Unfortunately for Jads and Ira, they hadnt exactly been on Giovannis good side.  He always kept the Pokemon that they captured.  The only Pokemon that Jads possessed now was a Pikachu, and Ira had a Butterfree.
They hadnt ever had much luck hunting for Pokemon to catch, but Jads felt pretty sure that they would at least catch something.  After walking for a few minutes, Jads began listening for any signs of wild Pokemon, as did Ira.  At the moment, they werent hearing anything.
After reaching a clear pond, Jads and Ira stopped, then dropped their packs on the ground and decided to wait.  They both knew that this was a good spot to wait for Pokemon.  It was a favorite spot of theirs when they were in Team Rocket, whether they were actually searching for Pokemon or not.
Jads sat down on the ground, using her pack as a backrest, then sighed.  She looked around slowly, keeping an eye out for movement.  At the moment there werent any Pokemon, but Jads knew that some Pokemon would show up eventually . . .

Crystal yawned, stretching herself out on the tree branch.  She laid back and relaxed, allowing herself to be slowly overtaken by sleep.  While she was drifting off, however, she heard movement down on the ground.
Crystal sat up slowly and yawned, then looked toward the ground.  She saw two humans, both wearing white shirts and baggy jeans.  Curious, she moved out further on the branch so that she was a bit closer.  They seemed to be relaxing.
Crystal was getting a bit more curious, so she hovered off the branch and flew toward them quickly and silently.  She landed on the ground behind a bush only a few feet from the two humans, trying to make as little sound as possible.
Unfortunately, she wasnt as quiet as she had hoped.  When she landed on the ground, a stick cracked, causing one of the people to jump in alarm.  Crystal ducked down as low as she could, completely forgetting about her ability to disappear entirely or teleport somewhere else . . .

Jads looked around quickly, slowly reaching for a Pokeball in her pocket.  She scanned the trees surrounding the pond carefully, hoping that she hadnt just been hearing things.  At first she didnt see anything, but then she spotted something in the bushes.
Jads elbowed Ira, then pointed to the bushes.  Do you see anything? she whispered to him.
Ira looked for a few moments, then shook his head.  The only thing I see is a bunch of bushes.
Jads sighed, then Ira faced the lake again.  Jads couldve sworn that she had seen something.  She focused her attention on the bushes, then suddenly she saw a distinct outline in the bushes which she hadnt seen before.  She blinked a few times to make sure that she wasnt seeing things, then elbowed Ira again.
Ira, I swear theres something in those bushes, and it looks like a Mew! she whispered a bit louder.
Ira mumbled something, then stood up.  Look, I dont see anything in the bushes, and Im going to prove to you that theres nothing there.
Ira began walking over to the bushes, muttering something that Jads couldnt make out.  He stopped next to the bushes, then turned to face Jads.
Look, nothing here, Ira said as he pulled apart the cluster of bushes . . .

Crystal immediately realized that she was caught, and it was too late to do anything.  As Ira pulled apart the bushes, she could do nothing but curl up into a ball and shiver in fear.  Her mind was too clouded for her to think of anything better to do.
Ira immediately jumped back in alarm, and Jads stood up quickly to see what had surprised him.  Ira stumbled back a few steps, then turned to Jads, stuttering severely.  Jads couldnt make sense of a single word he was saying.
Jads looked at Ira in complete confusion.  Ira, what gives?  Youre babbling like an infant.
Ira stopped and took a deep breath, then tried speaking again, but with the same result.  He was too excited and alarmed to say anything clearly.  Jads rolled her eyes, then walked over to where he was standing.  She glanced into the bushes, then gasped loudly.
Crystal was simply too petrified to move.  She didnt want to move now, out of fear that she might get hurt.  But the two humans named Ira and Jads seemed just as alarmed as she was, if not more so.
After getting over the initial shock, Jads took a deep breath and approached the cluster of bushes again.  She couldnt help but stare at the Mew in amazement and intrigue.  They had heard loads about the legendary Pokemon while in Team Rocket.
Jads looked at the Mew again, then noticed that it was shaking faintly.  After a few moments, a thought passed through Jadss mind.  Were bigger than it.  It probably thinks were dangerous.
Jads stepped back for a moment to think, then looked at Ira.  He was looking at the Mew with a visage of fascination.  Jads sighed, then glanced down at the Mew again.  This time, however, the Mew wasnt curled up in a ball anymore.  It had poked its head up and was looking directly at her.
Crystal was starting to get a bit more curious.  The humans hadnt made any hostile gestures yet, so perhaps they were different then the ones she had seen at the headquarters.  Crystal continued starting at Jads and Ira, waiting to see what they would do.
Jads began to get a bit curious herself.  Despite the slight fear she was feeling herself, she wanted to learn more about Mew than she had with Team Rocket.  Jads squatted down on the ground on front of the bushes, then took a deep breath.  She slowly began reaching her hand forward, and with a soothing voice she said, Dont worry, I wont hurt you.
Ira only watched in amazement, surprised that Jads was able to gather up enough courage to do such a thing.  He waited to see what the Mews reaction would be, knowing that anything could happen.
As Jads reached her hand out toward Crystal, Crystals instincts suddenly kicked in.  She immediately jumped up onto her feet and hissed loudly, causing Jads to fall back in alarm.  As Jads got up again, Crystal saw something else.  Not anger, but hurt.  Almost as if Jads was offended that Crystal had reacted that way.
Crystal sat back down slowly, feeling herself become calm again.  She couldnt help but feel angry at herself that she had reacted like she did.  Her curiosity was once again getting the best of her, because she had never had human friends before.  In fact, she didnt ever have much contact with humans.  Would these two treat her as a trained Pokemon, or would they consider Crystal as another one of their friends . . . ?

Blade watched the computer screen intently, taking note of Joeys brain activity, which had been gradually rising over the past few days.  It was still generating high peaks here and there, but not as often.  The brain activity seemed to be stabilizing.
Blade stood up and walked over to the tank where Joey was being held, then smiled.  He was anticipating the day when Joey would wake up.  Nobody knew when that day would come.  They only knew that it could happen at any time.  There was also the possibility that Joey would never wake up, and that she would be in a comatose state until she died.  None of the scientist liked to think about that possibility, so it didnt come up very often.
After staring at Joey for a few minutes, Blade left the laboratory and headed back to his office.  He opened his door and stepped inside, then immediately noticed the stack of papers which had piled up on his desk in the past few hours.  He sighed, then sat down at his desk and began scanning over the papers, signing where necessary.
There was one paper in particular which snagged Blades attention.  It was a memo from Giovanni.  It basically said that Blade had earned a pay raise for his outstanding accomplishments in Team Rocket.  Blade was earning an additional $200 per paycheck.
Blade was already one of the highest paid members of Team Rocket, aside from Giovanni.  His success in Team Rocket was the reason for that.  If the mew experiment was a total success, Blade would probably earn a promotion, which is what he was hoping for.  A higher position meant more privileges.  Blade was hoping that one day he would become the leader of Team Rocket, assuming full control when Giovanni would no longer be able to be in charge . . .

Crystal began to feel a bit brave, her fear slowly leaving her.  Her curiosity was stronger than ever.  After hesitating to make a decision for a few minutes, Crystal finally decided that if she didnt do something, nothing would happen.
Crystal floated into the air until she was at eye level with Jads and Ira, then stopped, her tail floating freely behind her.  She took a deep breath, then floated closer to Jads.  Jads hesitated a bit and took half a step backwards, but stopped when she realized that the Mew appeared to be acting friendly.
Crystal stopped a few feet from Jads and Ira, then slowly circled around them.  Jads and Ira watched Crystal, following her as she circled.  Crystal stopped in front of them again, then pondered what she should do next.
As Crystal was pondering, a sweet smell greeted her nose.  Her thought process was broken, and she couldnt help but follow the smell.  It seemed to be coming from Jadss backpack.  Jads watched as Crystal landed next to her backpack, then giggled quietly.  The Mew could probably smell the chocolate bar that was inside.
Crystal looked at Jadss backpack for a moment, then prodded it curiously.  Jads giggled again, then started walking toward the Mew and her backpack.  As she stopped and reached down to pick up her backpack, Crystal shrieked in alarm and jumped away.
Jads smiled, then picked up her backpack and unzipped one of the pockets.  She pulled out the small chocolate bar, then set her backpack down on the ground.  Crystal looked at Jads, then realized that the small package in Jadss hand was generating the sweet smell.
Crystal flew into the air and slowly approached Jads, wondering what to do.  Jads unwrapped the chocolate bar, then broke off a small piece.  She held it out to Crystal, then waited to see how Crystal would react.
Crystal saw the friendly gesture by Jads, though she was still rather cautious about humans.  She wasnt sure whether she should take the piece of food, but she couldnt see any harm in it.  Crystal made up her mind that this person couldnt possibly be the same as the people that she had seen at the headquarters.
Crystal approached Jads, then sniffed the piece of chocolate that Jads was holding in her hand.  Convinced that it was edible, Crystal reached forward and quickly snatched the chocolate from Jadss hand, then flew back a few feet.  She examined the piece of chocolate for a few moments, then realized that it was rubbing off on her paws.
Crystal licked her paws to clean the brown substance off, then she smiled happily as she realized how good it tasted.  She popped the piece of chocolate into her mouth, the sweetness invading her taste buds.
Immediately craving more, Crystal approached Jads, then looked up at her with a cute look, hoping that it would earn her another bit of chocolate.  Jads giggled, then squatted down in front of Crystal.  He ripped back the foil on the chocolate bar, then smiled.  She broke off a larger piece, then held it out for Crystal to take.
Ira watched in amazement, then snickered as a thought passed through his mind.  Oh, great.  Jads is making friends with a Pokemon that likes chocolate as much as she does.
By the time half of the chocolate bar was gone, Crystal was feeling quite confident that Jads wasnt such a bad person after all.  Jads smiled, then wrapped up the remaining chocolate and put it into her backpack.
I think youve had enough chocolate, Jads said quietly.  You wouldnt want to get yourself sick.
Ira glanced at his watch, then realized that he and Jads would have to start heading back to the cabin if they wanted to get there before dark.
Hey Jads, Ira called out, weve gotta start heading back.  Its getting late.
Jads looked at her own watch, then realized that Ira was right.  She looked down at Crystal as she stood up, then sighed quietly.  She picked up her backpack and pulled it onto her shoulders, then started walking toward Ira.
Crystal watched in sadness as Ira and Jads began leaving.  Her mind was racing, and she wondered what she should do.  Should she follow them, or should she go back to living her usual life?  Crystal considered the possibilities for a few moments, then made up her mind.  Her normal life was boring.  She wanted something else to do.
Crystal flew into the air and began following Jads and Ira, gaining on them quickly.  Jads and Ira were too busy walking to notice her.  Crystal stealthily landed on top of Jadss backpack, hovering in the air just enough that Jads didnt notice the slight different in weight.
After a few minutes, Ira glanced back and was about to say something.  He stopped walking, then Jads stopped as well.
Whats up, Ira? Jads asked.
Um, youve got ears on top of your head.
Huh? Jads said a bit loudly.  She pulled a small mirror out of her pocket, then noticed the small catlike Mew ears that seemed to be poking from underneath her hair.
Jads reached up and touched one of the ears curiously, then a loud shriek of surprise behind her caused her to fall forward.  Jads looked behind her, then saw Crystal lying on the ground, a bit dazed.
You little sneak! Jads giggled loudly.
Crystal smiled as she brushed the dirt off herself, then floated into the air and landed on Jadss shoulder.  This surprised Jads a bit, because she hadnt been expecting it at all.
Heh, it seems to like you, Ira said.
Jads giggled again, then looked over at Crystal.  I take it you want to come with us? she asked.
Crystal nodded, then floated off of Jadss shoulder and onto her backpack.  With one quick motion she unzipped one of the zippers, then hopped inside.  Jads smiled, then looked at Ira.
Just the right size, Jads said, smiling.  Then something else dawned on Jads.  Hey Ira, Id say we got our wish.
What wish? Ira asked.
Well, two wishes.  We wanted to get a new Pokemon, but we also wanted some new members for TR47.
Thats a good point Ira responded.  Ill tell you what, Jads, Team Rocket is gonna freak out since we have a Mew on our side now . . .
