Well you waited for it a long time now its time to dig up everything I can get and tell you abou the game thay will change the gaming world....Shen Mue.
Now most people would classify the game as a RPG but I simply would call it a REAL LIFE game. Shen Mue is real!!! Everything in the game could happen. From his moves to what he eats this game is Real life.
It all started in 94 Yu Suzuki went to China and while there he had the vision of the game that would change the way we would look at games. His vision Shen Mue. So why wasnt it made before? Simple Yu Suzuki dream wouldn't be fully completed with todays modern tech. So he waited and waited and now with the arrival of Dreamcast his dream comes to life.
For all those who hate to see the same face over and over in the same game you won't have any probs with game. Why? Well over 500 characters will be in the game with their unique look. Everyone in the game will be different from head to toe. Even wrist, fingers, hair, facial hair, and items they wear will be different. Also they wont stand and wait around they have jobs!!! They will be worken and liven their own lives. Also they will interact with you like you may be walking and see a man caring plated and ask for your help and you wil be given a choice to help or not but you must choose quickly because this is real time and time cannot wait for you. Also no letters will be shown when people talk oh now its is all real life speeched and guess what.....YOU WILL NEVER HEAR THE SAME THING TWICE!!!!
Let me say again Shen Mue is not a game but real life. You have to work to get money, sleep and most importantly eat. You can do various things for money like lift crates or even gamble if you choose. Also a new touch is the weather system. Play it in the day it will be day time play it at night it will be night the weather will change throughout the time you play sso be prepared for anything. Also rooms wont be the same thing anymore. Over 1,200 rooms have their own designs. Each room and street in Hong Kong where the game takes place is based on a street or room in Hong Kong. Also each mini item like a phone, glass, napking, etc. have their own designs and look like the real deal when I saw the phone I actually thought it was real no joke!!!
Also their are no boundries so you can go ANYWHERE. Take a bus by buying a ticket or maybe a cab or jus get on a bike and head over or maybe you wanna use the phone you can do it all. Also this is the 1st game to use Yu's own Q.T.E. which stands for Quick Time Event. Everything you do will be made by the pressing of buttons all it will use the F.R.E.E. system which stands for Free Reactive Eyes Entertainment. This means you mus make you decisions in a split second like real life. Also lets say you chase after a theif and he throws a cart inn your you need to jump out of the way thats a QTE!!! Also dead a head you see a groupd of thugs time ta take em!!!
The fights in Shenmue are both intense and exhilarating belive me! Using a very similar contol method to the Q.T.E I just mentioned, to stay alive you need lightening fast reflexes like a real fighter would. Picture a guy tring to wack you one in the head, you need to press down quickly to duck, then followed by buttons on the screen to grab his arm and throw him across the room. If you fail, he might fall on you or anything else could happen. At one stage I saw a guy fall into a fruit cart, rip the roof apart and the fruit split everywhere, that's another example of the detail going on around you! Dreamcast IGN put it well when they said, "The overall effect was more like participating in a Bruce Lee flick than a game." Like a movie aswell, all the camera work is excellent. It really helps to set the atmopshere (and this game sure has plenty of atmosphere, lets just hope SOA dosn't ruin it by all the translation). They all help to give Shenmue a very dramitic feel. Also worth a note, is that to help you find particular points of intrest, sometimes your characters head will turn to look at something he finds intresting. Now before I mentioned everything was motion captured, well in the fighting scenes this is particualy evident. Using the unlimited budget Sega gave Yu Suzuk, a professional martial artist was used to caputre every move. The end result is well worth the effort, meaning smooth realistic animation like you've never seen in an RPG. So far it's unclear how you'll fight boses, but I for one am hoping for a 1 on 1 Virtua Fighter style fight.
Now comes the music, if you've heard Panzer Dragoon and Grandia's fully orcesticral tunes, you'll have an idea of what to except. Except like everything in Shenmue, it out does them all. The music is just perfect, and beautifuly portrays the games chinese atmoshpere. I highly recommend downloading some of the exclusive mp3's we have coming very soon!
Well over this very lengthly preview (there is just so much detail in this game to cover it's mind boggling!) I hope your as excited about this as me. This is going to be THE video game for years to come, there's no possible way a PC can even come close to this, and Sony must of had a heart attack when they saw this! Then again, this is still just a game early in the Dreamcasts life, it's just impossible to picture what we'll be seeing from Yu Suzuki in a few years. Sega have just taken a huge leap ahead in video games, and are no doubt leaving the programmers of games like Final Fantasy 8 and Zelda woundering if they will ever catch up! The mona lisa of gaming is coming to Dreamcasts late next year, I can't wait!
