In 1966 he married Maria Rohacova in a small chapel outside of Bratislava. His son, Patrick, was born in Bratislava in 1967. Soon thereafter, in 1968, Ludo left Czechoslovakia for Milwaukee, Wisconsin as a visiting surgeon. While Maria and Patrick were visiting him later that year the Warsaw Pact countries invaded Czechslovakia and formally secured behind the Iron Curtin. As a result, the Sevciks decided to remain in the United States. Ludo changed specialties from surgery to anesthesiology. In 1970 and '71 his daughters Doris and Beatrice were born in New York.
