The Central Institute of Post-Harvest Engineering & Technology (CIPHET) was established at Ludhiana in 1989 (Punjab, India) to undertake lead researches in the area of the Post-Harvest Engineering and Technology. The second campus of the CIPHET was established in 1993 at Abohar (Pb). CIPHET is also executing All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Post-Harvest Technology (PHT) at 33 centers and Applications of Plastics in Agriculture (APA) at 9 centers. CIPHET is located on Hambran Road and about 11 km from Ludhiana railway station.

MANDATE is 1)To undertake basic, applied, strategic and adaptive engineering and technology research in post-production sector of produce of plant origin, livestock and aquaculture produce including agriculture structures and environmental control, quality and safety, 2) To act as national institute for research, education/teaching and training in post-harvest engineering and technology, 3) To act as national repository of information on processes, equipments, products and technologies on post-harvest engineering and technology, 4)To transfer the technology and provide advisory and consultancy services, 5) To develop and strengthen the linkage with the private and public sector.
