PTSIM: Particle Transport Simulator

PTSIM is a general simulation framework for particle transport Monte Carlo simulation and incorporates a complete implementation for coupled photon-electron/positron transport simulation.

The main PTSIM features and components are:

  • Object oriented design which allows for easy extensions and modifications, such as adding new types of particles or changing of the theory or data used for sampling the particle interactions. The code is written in C/C++.
  • Simulation of the transport of photons in the energy range from hundreds of KeV to hundreds of MeV.
  • Simulation of the transport of electrons and positrons in the energy range from tens of KeV to hundreds of MeV. It allows for modeling of condensed history schemes of the 1st and 2nd class.

Descriptions of the physical aspects of the simulations are given in [1,2,3,4].

  • Contains a universal random sampling module that can be applied for generating random variables with arbitrary probability distributions that can come in either parametrized or tabulated form. The module is described in [3,5].
  • Incorporates a general geometry representation system using boundary representation and implementing techniques for robust trajectory tracking, avoiding logical faults due to computation rounding errors. The geometry representation system is described in [3,6].
  • It represents the foundation on which was built ETS (Emission Tomography Simulator).
