I decided in the summer of 2003 that I wanted to become a nail technician. I had been getting my nails done at a NSS [not to standard] salon. In these salons the implements are not sterilized and basic sanitation is not practiced, the techs are often not trained to the best of their ability and you end up with ruined nails more often than not. After being burned down to bleeding by a "tech" and I use the term lightly, using an electric file on my nail plate and ignoring my repeated telling him that it HURT - I decided right then and there, that day, that I would be better!
I applied for Harford Community College's state accredited class that Fall but they were booked. So I put myself on the mailing list for the following year. Fall of 2004 I started my classes. I have found my calling in life! I love doing nails. Right now we have finished coursework for sanitation, chemical use, health hazards, safety for oursevles and our clients and have progressed through natural nail manicures onto enhancements [gel and acrylics, wraps, etc]. I love what I do and would like to eventually be able to go full time in a salon. I've already received job offers for once I get licensed in Summer of 2005.
