Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve

Nov 27, 2012. After two failed attempts to locate the entrance to the Marsiling Dungeons, the duo of Farhan and myself decided to do something easier and ‘friendlier’ for all. A walk in a the park style and photography session of Sungei Buloh Wetland Reserve (SBWR). This opportunity was used by avid photographers to put their skills to use. A total of 15 people including Farhan and myself turned up. The other attendees are Fadilah, Nirwani, Shahida, Arman, Mike, Nizam, Juli, Farhan Jalal, Fazeli, Jeffrey, Amin, Zaid and Asyur. A great turn up indeed!

Anyway, less of reading and more of pics! Here you go! Enjoy! Photos courtesy of Fazeli.

Our first encounter with wildlife. I don't know what this is. Some kind of
lizard?

A small mangrove pond? This is just outside the Visitor Centre.

The main entrance and Visitor Centre.

Flash photography is not allowed because it can cause nesting failure.

The first walk takes us to the Mangrove Broadwalk. A 500 metres walk around
mangrove swamps which takes us less than 15 minutes to complete.

A bamboo tree?

The first wildlife spotted at Mangrove Broadwalk. A Pink-fingered Vinegar Crab.

The mangrove swamp.

The tree-climbing crab. I didn't know crabs can climb trees too!

A river connecting to the sea.

Huts or shelters like this are plenty.

The Bakau tree.

The Ketapang leaves where the olden kampong Malays use to wrap 'Tempe'.

A shy White-Breasted Waterhen roaming around looking for food.

Another shot.

A small island in the middle of the river and a tower hut amongst the trees.

'Route 1' of the park.

An acrobatic display of a cute squirrel eating some sort of fruit with its head
facing downwards. Strong pair of hind legs!

Johor Bahru. The SBWR is very close to its Malaysian neighbour. This is taken
at the northern tip of 'Route 1' where it's close to the Straits of Johor.
