The search for Kampong Chantek and Kampong Lorong Buangkok.

September 30, 2010. The search for Kampong Chantek and Kampong Lorong Buangkok is a combination of 2 ideas. Farhan came out with the idea of finding the remnants of Kampong Chantek and I came out with the idea of going to Kampong Lorong Buangkok. It was told that the remnants of Kampong Chantek is still visible although it has been covered by dense vegetation. There is a trail called 'Durian Loop' at the end of Jalan Kampong Chantek off Dunearn Road in Bukit Timah area. It is situated somewhere very close to the Murnane Reservoir. It is rumoured that the remnants can be seen if you walk along the trail. Kampong Lorong Buangkok is still the last standing kampong in Singapore. On this fateful day, we decided to embark on another expedition to both kampongs.

This expedition was organized by Farhan and the turn up was good! There were 9 of us! Besides Farhan and myself, Raihan, Juliati, Banon, Zulaikha, Arman, Asyur and Soleha were in the trip. We had breakfast at King Albert's Park which is also the meeting point. People say a picture tells a thousand words. So here are the pictures. Enjoy.

CAUTION: OVER 90+ PHOTOS! This page is divided into 2 parts

The first four (including Farhan the cameraman) who arrived early before
8am. Solehah didn't want her face to be in the photo.

From another view. Solehah still refusing to reveal her face.

Saiful with his new Arai helmet making his grand appearance.

Finally, Farhan took a photo of Solehah unnoticed by herself! Hahahaha!

Juliati opened her package of errr... Sausage McMuffin? Or Egg McMuffin?

Asyur stirs his cup of tea or coffee skillfully.

Raihan raping his burger without mercy!

Hmmm... No caption.

Farhan's Big Breakfast, I think.

The besides the cameraman, we also have a camerawoman.

The Sleepy Face, Arman, just arrived and surprisingly he isn't sleepy!

Saiful in deep thoughts.

Saiful's favourite tea made of Lipton Yellow Label Tea, Nestlé Coffe-Mate
and sugar. In fact, he's sipping the same tea while typing this out. Hahaha!

Asyur reminiscing his childhood days.

Arman fixing back his dentals that looked like a burger. Hahahaha!

All of us observed Arman fixing back his 'dentals'.

A cup of coffee to keep Farhan awake the whole expedition.

The guys listening attentively to Saiful's briefing.

Farhan with his new baldy haristyle posing with his cup of coffee.

The two latecomers, Queen Ikha and Banon were not in the picture because they held back our time! Hehehe.

The remnants of Kampong Chantek were rumoured to be near Kampong
Trail, which is located at the end of Jalan Kampong Chantek just before
Murnane Reservoir. It was believed that the remnants can mostly be found
at 'Durian Loop'.

Finally, one of the two latecomer appeared in our photos.

Could't clearly see what is this. I think it says if there is heavy rain with
lightning, trekkers are advised to seek shelter? Hahahaha!

The other latecomer, nicknamed Queen Ikha leads the team.

Saiful briefing Banon our expedition this time.

I can't believe she actually wore sleeveless in the jungle!

Saiful signalling the rest what he saw but none of them paid attetion!

Arman takes a look at Saiful's discovery.

A stroll in the jungle.

Unknown discovery.

The camerawoman strikes a pose while the one beside was a little too late.

A well perhaps?

Photo of a camerawoman taking photo of 3 excited explorers.

We couldn't find anything so we decided to do some camwhoring!

As a result, Banon got bitten by some ants!

So she shifted forward and continued camwhoring!

A bridge over a small stream. I have no idea where this place is!

A staircase leading to somewhere. I still don't know where this place is.

Climbed up the stairs and so here we are.

I do remember this is a different trail but can't remember the name!

We were basically walking around aimlessly till we got to Rifle Range Road where we decided to do another round of camwhoring. Suddenly the sky turned dark. We had to find our way back to where we started before the rain started pouring! Unfortunately, all of us were caught in the rain!

The lucky people are those who travelled in a car.

Still smiling despite after being soaked in rain!

Cute Pink Panter, I think.

We got to the flyover nearby, along Jalan Kampong Chantek, to take shelter from the rain.

The unlucky ones were the bikers, like Saiful.

Asyur isn't happy about it.

The rain helped Arman to stay awake!

Still camwhoring despite getting really soaked in rainwater. Look at the
flood on the road!

After the rain has subsided, we headed to Kampong Lorong Buangkok.

We finally reached Kampong Lorong Buangkok. Without a raincoat, Arman bashed through
the rain!

Only to fall asleep later.
