| 01/09/02 Fivb Brazil bounced back with win over Australia Brazil beat Australia 3-0 (25-19, 25-17, 26-24) - duration 1:12 01-Sep, start time: 17:00, end time: 18:12 - Attendance: 3,100 Brazil celebrated their second victory of the World Championship. The South American champion won against hard-fighting Australia, the team that is still looking for a first victory. After an equal performance at the beginning of the first set, Brazil went in front with 16-11. Both Brazil and Australia played a similar style but the Brazilian attack and block was a little more successful, so the new and young Brazillian team grabbed the set with 25-19. Australia began the second set less strong, so the team from Down Under was quickly behind at 2-8. After the first technical time out, the "Aussies" seemed to gather new hope, but could not find the way to put more pressure on Brazil. The Southamericans gratefully took the chance and won the set with 25:17. After leading comfortably Brazilian coach Marco Motta gave his second six a chance. Starting without their main key players, Brazil kept up with Australia until 14-14. Then the Australians took the lead. Coach Marco Motta reacted and brought his number one setter Marcelle Rodrigues back into the game. This was the right decision, because Brazil won 26-24. Brazilian Paula Pequeno was with 14 points the best scorer. When Brazil faces Greece on Monday, the South American best can take a step forward to the next round. Australia will nhave hopes to win the first match when the Australians meet Thailand on Monday. |
