A equipe derrotou sem dificuldades a Pol�nia, por 3 sets a 0, parciais de 25/18, 25/19 e 25/18, na cidade de Leipzig, pelo grupo D da competi��o. Os saques for�ados e os contra-ataques centrados na jogadora Paula foram o conjunto que levou o Brasil a fechar o primeiro set em 25/18, em 21 minutos. A Pol�nia errou muito em conseq��ncia dos saques bem colocados da sele��o brasileira e n�o conseguiu impor seu ritmo. A Pol�nia voltou no segundo set disposta a usar uma de suas principais armas em quadra: o bloqueio. De cara, o time saiu na frente e conseguiu parar os ataques do Brasil. Mas o time comandado pelo t�cnico Marco Aur�lio Motta se concentrou e, com as jogadas elaboradas pela levantadora Marcelle, conseguiu fechar em 25/19. Os erros da Pol�nia fizeram a diferen�a a favor do Brasil no segundo set. Para se ter id�ia, ambas equipes marcaram um ponto cada de saque, dois de bloqueio e 14 de ataque. Mas a Pol�nia errou oito vezes, contra apenas duas da equipe verde-amarela. Com a vit�ria nos dois primeiros sets, a sele��o brasileira voltou ao terceiro per�odo mais relaxado e se acomodou em quadra. Isso foi o suficiente para que a Pol�nia reagisse e acertasse nos ataques. O jogo ficou mais equilibrado e cada ponto era muito disputado.
