| Almost two and a half years ago the Lucena City Association of Ontario was borne to a nucleus of 20 ardent Lucenahin families with a common slogan: The Mission is the Reason! and with a common cause: to unite as a community in a spirit of sharing and fun. The sharing has translated into various fund raising activities to support different projects or Missions. The fun part comes in making all the dreams happen. One of the Major project envisioned by the founders of the association... A Medical Mission to Lucena City was finally realized. May 24, 2001 8AM the mission started by giving away Relief Goods to over 450 poor families, the goods consist of rice, canned meat and vegetables, peanut butter, candies and vitamins. How did we choose the right family? We gave only 2 conditions to the volunteers who went around the poor areas of the city giving coupons. No sign of concrete and no sign of TV in the house or habitat. Medicines was given directly to the poor and needy people in Lucena City via the associations medical services mission last May 24, 2001 held at the confines of the Knights of Columbus Building. 8 Dentist and 6 medical doctors from California and locally performed dental services to over 200 dental and 500 medical patients... all were given free medications (total amount of medicine distributed $20000.00). Special thanks to all the Doctors and Dentist who volunteered their valuable time for this mission. Kudos too to Alex Calma for making the arrangements for this event. The Medical Equipments and Supplies worth over $450000.00 on the other hand was distributed the end of June, 2001 to various Hospitals and Charitable agencies. The Hospitals and other institutions were given only one requirement "...that the equipment and supplies be given free of use to FREE ward patients only!." (monitoring in place). As expected the Mission will not only help Lucenahins but also the Quezon Province as a whole. A well earned result from the hard working officers and members of LCAO ! The Mission is the Reason organization. |
