Serviceberry
What I know:
� A large, multi-stemmed shrub (although I'd call it a small tree)
� Goes by many names including Sarvisberry, and Saskatoon berry (although there are some differences).
� Produces full white blossoms in the spring (mid-May'ish), which drop over a short period of time giving a snowy effect to the yard.
� Edible berries appear in June. They are very much like red blueberries in taste and appearance. (Saskatoon berries get much larger and are apparently sweeter).
� Attracts a large array of animals and birds. At night, after the berries have ripened, the trees are in constant motion from raccoons, possums, and the like. During the day they are frequented by all sorts of birds, squirrels, etc. If you want to gather berries for baking, be prepared to fend them off with one hand while picking with the other. I was only able to gather enough for half of a pie (had to make up the difference with frozen blueberries).
� Best blooms and berries where the sun shines directly on the tree.
� Smooth, dark grey bark, and small leaves.
� Currently the favorite climbing trees of my children.
