Common Peony
What I know:
� Perrenial. � 2'-3' in height, grows in a slowly expanding clump.
� 8" wide, pink flowers on mine - but there are a lot of varieties (and associations to help you sort it out) � Doesn't like to be moved, may not bloom for a year or two afterwards while it's trying to fix all of the roots you broke digging it up.
� Very shallow planting, if it's too deep it will never flower.
� The buds excrete a sugary resin which will attract ants. A popular myth is that the buds are opened by the ants and won't open without them. Whether the ants are collecting the resin, farming aphids, or something else entirely I just don't know, but be assured that they will find your peony in no time.
� Propogated by division !*Carefully*!
� Dead-head spent flowers as necessary.
� Dried stems can be removed in late fall, or early spring (I usualy leave them untl spring so that I don't forget where it was).
