Juniper

juniper.jpg - 33922 Bytes

What I know:
 Evergreen.
Grows at a comfortable speed, in that it isn't too fast or too slow.
Will grow very large (the one pictured above is 12' high and reached roughly 20' wide before I cut the lower branches out.
The densely pack leaves keep most of the sun and moisture out from underneath.
 Handles pruning well.
The birds use it for shelter frequently.
Apparently thrives on neglect, for short of pruning I completely ignore it.
It is a little prickly and can make some people very itchy.
It makes a long lasting, thick garland for christmas, but I'd suggest keeping it outside, the mess when it dries is amazing and it doesn't have the most pleasant scent.
