Daffodils
What I know:
� Daffodils are bulbs that like to be planted 3-6" deep in the fall before the frost.
� They prefer sunny spots, but will handle light shade.
� The leaves should be left attached to fade, as the bulbs use the energy stored there for the growth of new bulbs, new roots, and to ensure that there will be a flower the following year.
� I fold and tie the leaves into snug (not tight) bundles after they have yellowed and are laying on the ground. This keeps them nice and neat while they finish detaching themselves. It should be noted that this goes against the current thinking that the leaves should be left to lay on the ground. All I can report is that I haven't had any problems with lost blooms or bulbs so far.
� Daffodils in a shade which is too dark will still grow, they just won't flower.
� It would seem that daffodils prefer a long, cold winter as our best shows have been after very cold winters.
