Well, I was able to convince the captain of the Orenmara to let me use his secured channel to monitor the situation the Freedom is heading into, and I think I’ve discovered why I’ve been called out of retirement. What the media has reported is a whitewash of the true situation within the Romulan Empire. Convulsions are ripping throughout the mass of the Empire and it seems on the verge of shattering into true civil war, and the Federation seems to be mobilizing to take advantage of it!

I guess all that work on "Operation Shot in the Dark" did come in handy for some things. I likely have more experience at fighting a star ship behind hostile lines and scavenging for supplies than any captain still living, and I bet they intend to put that experience to good use by having us scout for the fleet! After going over her specs, the Freedom seems a made to order scout. She has twice the capacity for cargo of a standard war ship and her improved scanners make it possible to see much farther than a standard war ship.

My first jobs must be a thorough examination of the readiness of the ship and crew, and to make preparations to take her across the neutral zone as soon as we are ordered to. Goddess it feels good to be back in the tall brush on the hunt again! I can hardly wait to get our orders and sink my fangs into a Romulan neck!
