| 9:20 pm Sunday 14 November 2004 Well Grandad says he is working on something to put up on his part of the site. Seems like he is kind of in the same frame of mind when I started; SO much to say on so many topics and no idea where to begin. I tell you last night at dinner he told me a great story about a dog he used to have named Brutus. It was a great story about a very interesting animal. He picked the dog out of an animal rescue shelter in D.C. I believe. He had no idea what type of a dog he wanted. The guy who ran the shelter brought him out back to look at the "herd" as he called them. There he watched all these dogs running back and forth in this caged area. Everyone of them running back and forth with no real purpose except the dog that would become to known as Brutus. When the dogs started running down to the other end of the area Brutus would just sit there and wait. The dogs would run back and Brutus would get up and wag his tail and "mingle". Off the other dogs went to the other side and Brutus stayed where he was. After watching this for some time, Grandad said that was the dog for him. I could go on and on but I will leave that for a possible grandad story. Brutus fit well into the Downey mold. We don't tend to chase after the crowd. We know most of the running around is pretty futile. I'd imagine the first day Brutus got in the shelter he may have been running with the crowd but sooner or later he said to himself, "Hey. This is stupid. I am not going to keep doing this." Who knew that the dog's decision would be the exact reason my grandad picked him. Anyway, today I just took it easy and did a couple chores. I cleaned out a majority of the car. (I still got to do the trunk. Maybe tomorrow.) I watched the Ravens squeak by the Jets. Had dinner with the family. Called a couple of friends I hadn't called in a good bit of time. Did a load or two of laundry. Watched some more TV and read the Sunday paper. Quite the boring slow day. That's not a bad thing. Occasionally you need a basic day to refresh your soul. No worries, no responsibilities, no prior engagements. Just a chance to be, a chance to do stuff you enjoy, a chance to do a couple of things on that ever-growing "To Do" list, a chance to reclaim some of that busy time that they call life. I plan on finishing the day with some more laundry, more cleaning, and more organizing. (Yeah I know sounds like broing work but the more I knock off that "To Do" list the less pressure I'll feel throughout the week.)I'll go through some martial arts exercises, finishing with a qigong meditation session. Then off to a nice long soaking bath where I'll try to prepare myself for the upcoming week. I wish there were more lazy days in the week. Leo 4 |
