Project Information

The LSSP Committee has approved a project! We will be working to build four children's libraries in the St. Louis area.

The basic idea on each site is the same, but it will be adapted to suit each location's specific needs. In general, we will take a space that is not being used or could be used for something else, clean it up, build shelves, paint the walls, and set up a library in that space.

UPDATE: One of the sites will be a 15-passenger van (a "bookmobile"). This will allow the library to serve more than one community!

Exact details are still being worked out, but we hope to have the children who will use the libraries to help us with certain aspects of the library, like painting the walls, decorating, and putting the books on the shelves. This will teach the children the importance of being involved in their own communities. They will feel proud of their work on the library and will be encouraged to come to it and read more often. On the last day, depending on the stipulations of each site, we will probably have a read-a-thon with the children and community to let the community know it is there for them. Please click on the link to the right to find out more about the sites where we will be working.

UPDATE: At least two of the sites will have the children working with us on the second work day, and three of the sites will have a read-a-thon on the third day.

This year, we will be staying at the Best Western Airport Inn.

UPDATE: The hotel provides complimentary breakfast and airport shuttling. LSSP committee members will meet attendees arriving at the airport to help them with luggage and direct them to the shuttles.

The registration cost will be $115.00 and the t-shirt will cost an additional $8.00. The registration form and fee must be RECEIVED BY May 15!!
