Window CuttingPlease note: I do not take responsibility for your stupidty, if you break something that you paid a lot for, tough luck. I told you to be careful. Here is another small guide on how to show off your package. No, don't get dirty thoughts on me. With all that horse power inside your case, wouldn't it be a waste to just cover it up? Won't people be amazed at your heatsink and fan combo that looks like a metal brick? What better way to show off than to cut open the sides of your case! This guide is not meant to be the standard. I am not a master architect or carpenter, this case is not without flaws but it is the simplest and cheapest way to get that professional look. There are numerous choices in picking out the material to use for the side cover. There is PlexiGlass, Lexan and Acrylic. In my little insane project, I decided to use Acrylic. This could be found on some hardware stores and if you're lucky on advertising sign makers. The size you need depends on the window you want to make, usually the size of the window plus 1" on all sides. ![]() Acrylic You also need some screws for mounting, the type of screw that you want to use depends entirely on you, in this project i used allen hex screws, you could also use rivets but that is semi-permanent. Some of the tools that are needed in this project is a hacksaw for cutting the acrylic, dremel or jigsaw to cut the side panel, and a hand drill.
First you would cover the area where you wanted to cut the side panel, this depends on your design,
this would protect the paint of the side panel from scratches. ![]() Then draw the desired shape of the window you would like, there are many shapes that you could use on your window in my case I've chosen a rectangular window with rounded corners for simplicity. You could experiment on this but more complex design would be more difficult to cut. ![]() Measure and mark the acrylic just add 1" on all sides, you will need that for the installation of the acrylic to the side panel. Don't forget that! Or else your acrylic sheet will be unuseable.
