
THE LSM INSTRUCTIONAL MEDIA CENTER
The Instructional Media
Center is an integral part in the school's educational and administrative
structure. It consists of the Grade and High School Libraries and the
Audio-visual Center. It is being administered by professional staff to assist in
accessing much needed information, developing research strategies, and enhancing
life-long learning skills. It seeks to meet the informative, educational and
recreational needs of the LSM community and others who may be interested to use
its facilities. It gathers, orgranizes and offers maximum utilization of print
and non-print instructional materials and equipment to meet the expressed and
anticipated needs of the School's curriculum.
It provides prompt and
effecient access to its resources; helps in the search, retreival and gathering
of vast information through the use of the internet. It establishes apropriate
linkages with the member institiutions of the Ortigas Center Library Consortium
(OCLC) to make their resources available for the use of LSM clientele. Moreover,
the Center assists in the preparation of instructional materials to achieve a
successful teaching-learning process which ultimately leads to the attinment of
academic excellence.
The
Grade and High School Libraries
Both Department
Libraries promote the same program in support of the School's curricula and
other related educational activities. Their main aim is to acquire and process a
sufficient number of well-selected instructional and other reference materials
for efficient use. Futhermore thy provide adequate services to meet the academic
concerns of the LSM community. Processing of books and other research materials;
encoding, filing, and preserving records and pertinent documents; arranging the
learning centers to make possible the most effective use of the IMC resources
are the main concerns of the librarians. Regular activities include information
dissemination to make the LSM community fully aware of the recent developments
in the Center. Annual orientation/re-orientation activities are given to
students, faculty members. Collection development and textbook evaluation are
shared responsibility of the IMC staff, the teachers and
administrators.
Book
purchases are done every quarter. Periodical subscriptions provide researchers
with recent information and Internet services offers fast access and retrieval
of much-needed research data. Daily library service is more focused on
individual readers as they come during recess time, lunch breaks and after
dismissal time.
The Audio Visual Center Program
The AVC program aims to provide substantial services to the students, faculty and administrators through aided learning activities, fast access to information and varied skills in the use of non-print instructional materials. To the maximum capability of materials and equipment, and manpower resources, the Center provides audiovisual learning materials to all subject area according to program content ; manage materials to become accessible to learners, teachers and administrators; extend assistance to learning activities that require audiovisual materials equipment and facilities; help learners and teachers familiarize with audiovisual materials and equipment; their use, care and maintenance; and enlighten users with regard to the essence of AV Center teaching-learning processes.
