LSCC v TROWBRIDGE

When the fixture list was first published last year, this game always looked like a hiding. On the day though would plucky LSCC be able to live with their aristocratic Wiltshire neighbours? As their dyed blonde South African hit the 300th run for the loss of only 2 wickets, the answer was an unequivocal no.

LSCC however will rue the dropping of at least 8 catching opportunities, it would be fair to say in this record breaking season that LSCC have never fielded worse. Twist, Kendall, Hannell and Mark "Ooh, they hit that a bit hard" Tyrie were the worst offenders, however noone could escape blame.

With the game tied up Trowbridge gave some of their fringe bowlers a chance. With their fielders also suffering from the same contagious strain of generosity, LSCC had the opportunity to salvage some pride. Some teams would go on the defensive, protect their averages, bat out for the forty overs - not Limpley. Twist and Smith opened aggressively giving Trwobridge a taste of their own medecine - sending them down to the far boundaries to retrieve balls from the thick bushland that bordered the TCG.

Richards S was next and found some form with some mighty confidence boosting blows. Gregory took a sucker punch falling to a low one to off stump for 2. He would be a strong contender for kit-boy. Richards A sent a lazy loop down to square leg, out caught. Fortunately Gay, Kendall and Handle offered a more solid resistance.

By this time Gregory was beginning to sweat, would he be kit-boy again? Wilson, Norris and Tyrie comfortably reached their targets ensuring Gregory would indeed be boy of the kit.

MOTM: James Gay, Kitboy: Gregory.
