Match Report 19/5/02

Venue: Longmead

Opposition: St.Stephens

Team: Tim Smith, Richards A, Bush, Kendall, Clark, Gregory, Ball, Owen, Hannel(Skip), Sharkey, Norris

Man of the Match: Tom

Kit boy: Nick Gregory x 2

Tea boys: Bush and Norris. These two have developed an acute understanding over the years and always come up trumps with a well stocked tea. Could have done with a few extra teabags in the new pot.

Result: Limpley Stoke won by 128 runs

Limpley Stoke finally beat St.Stephens! More importantly their resident idiot Roland broke his collar bone and was unable to play. This meant the game went uninterrupted without any appalling LBW decisions, dodgy no ball calls a minute after the ball had been delivered and Limpley Stoke had taken a wicket and his customary duck. In case he ever reads this which is unlikely I’ve been informed that he is an even worse rugby official and a hopeless lover.

Limpley Stoke batted first. Guess what, the opening pair of Smith and Richards put on fifty runs for the opening wicket. On such platforms large scores are made and the crowd were not disappointed, Bush and Kendall put on a quickfire 72 with some fine hitting and positive running between the wickets. Next in Nick Gregory came in and was soon out. But he did improve his average by 0.33 taking it onto 1.33, his kit packing skills have come on no end. Needing a final push to get past 200 Ball and Clark bullied the St. Stephens bowling and finally Owen squeaked another not out to boost his average.

St.Stephens started to bat and it took them until the 23rd over before they hit their first boundary. Please have a go and try and win the match. Everybody bowled well Hannell picking up a career best of 5 wickets for 8 runs.

Bring on Hanbrook who we have yet to beat. Can Limpley Stoke make it four wins in succession? Only the Good Lord knows the answer to that one.
