As the country sizzled in record temperatures, Marshfield took the heat out of an early Limpley onslaught to bowl them out well short of their target. All the early signs suggested Limpley might be heading for a famous victory over Marshfield, with Twist sporting a stunning hair slide diving athleticly to his left to remove the MF opener in the second over. Kendall and Tyrie were bowling at their peak and a steady stream of wickets followed leaving MF in all sorts of bother. Enter the fat kid who always scores a stack against us. He steared the MF innings to a respectable total of 223 posting 94 himself. Kendall bowled 14 overs, a monumental effort given the soaring temperatures and his own portly proportions. He was rewarded with 5 wickets and we would all have loved to have seen him walk off the pitch had another ball been sent through wicket keeper and first slip. The LSCC response was dramatic, Smith and Twist found the going easy finding the boundary with alarming regularity. Smith fell short of his fifty deemed LBW to a pearler from the MF bowler Jenkins. Twist however was revelling in impressing his support by padding away the ball and attempting outrageous sweep shots while wearing a hair slide. He eventually fell for 42, but Limpley were well on their way to victory having such a solid foundation to build on. Once again however LSCC found that once their skipper was removed from the equation they would struggle. Westgarth out, 0; Gregory out, 14 hittng a silly one to the moon; Richards A out 11, caught third time lucky. Richards S provided some solidity but was unable to find a stable partner and the total started to look a long way off. Once Underdown, Hannell and Tyrie had fallen cheaply the game was over and MF had sealed an impressive victory. MOTM Kendall, kit-boy James Gay. |
