Pinched this off the Hinton website: Hinton Charterhouse v Limpley Stoke. In this local village challenge match played on Friday, Limpley Stoke started badly and were reeling on 52-6. They then made a splendid recovery, Nick Gregory battling out 39, and, with a waggle of the tail, they recovered to 149 all out. It looked easy for Hinton in reply and they were cruising at 70-2, with Graham Vass solid on 41. A flurry of wickets however then changed the pattern of the match. First, Gregory bowled Vass and then Bush who bowled 21 overs on the trott, took five further wickets to set up a tense finish. The last over saw all three possible results as likely as each other. Hinton needed 11 to win and limpley Stoke required two wickets. Limpley did get a crucial wicket with two balls remaining , but were unable to snatch the last as Hinton made safe the draw, nine runs short of their target. Ed Meddings |
