Disappointing loss for LSCC A convincing victory for Hinton Charterhouse on a typically fine day up at the stunning setting of HCCC. LSCC had a good turnout for a Tuesday afternoon, which is hardly surprising given the number of unemployed in their ranks. HCCC succumbed early on to a peach from Leigh Kendall ridding Hinton of their powerful stroke-player Palmer. His day however was not over and he would come back to haunt LSCC. Kendall would meanwhile take another two wickets to strengthen his claim to be LSCC's MVP. HCCC batted well and built a score of 204 for 7 before tea with most of the order making a contribution. Hannell bowled economically and Neil Tyrie prompted a late tumbling of wickets. The fielding from the away team was generally sharp but not without its comedy moments in Mark Tyrie's dropped catch and Simon Richards' attempted run-out. LSCC began their innings poorly and despite the good conditions never recovered. The only shining light was a class innings of 39 from Tim Smith to spare LSCC's blushes. Inexplicably batsmen 2 to 6 gained a grand total of zero. With Scott Hutchinson also getting a duck the whitewash was complete, bowler Palmer gaining five of the LSCC scalps. Skipper Hannell scored a commendable 18 which along with his all round contribution earned him the title of MOTM. Alex Richards' duck made sure the Richards' domination of the title of kit-boy continued. LSCC found themselves up against a strong HCCC team and were unable to compete on the day. They do have the chance to make amends on Sunday when they will face HCCC once again on home turf. How about batting first and putting on 250, anyone? Simon Richards |
