Limpley Stoke vs. Hanbrook

Limpley Stoke won the toss and elected to field, but that was as good as it got for them and their sorry captain Nick Gregory. A long and laborious display in the field saw Hanbrook rack up the runs at an alarming rate on an exceptionally fast outfield. Their middle order Kiwi racked up his third century of the season in quick time before retiring out to the embarrassment of the fielding side, although it could have been a different story if Martin Owen had not missed a simple run out when the Kiwi was in his early teens. Limpley picked up several wickets with Hannell, Tyrie and Bush in the wickets, but their bowling just wasn't up to it, Hanbrook finished their 40 overs setting Limpley Stoke a daunting 301 to win.

The display in the field was summed up when a Hanbrook batsmen offered up a simple catch to Nick Gregory at mid-wicket only to see him facing the wrong way talking to Nick Twist at square leg and two runs to Hanbrook gained instead of a wicket to Limpley Stoke. Both players professionalism must be put under scrutiny, they turned up to play having had no sleep after pushing the drinking through till dawn.

Limpley Stoke's reply started brightly with Twist dispatching boundary after boundary, however fellow opener Owen fell to a sharp catch at gully for 2. Bush was next man in and made a bright start as Limpley had to score at over 7 an over to be within shout of a victory, however he was given out to a dubious caught behind for 13. Twist reached his 50 off only 30 balls but was then bowled and the steady fall of wickets meant Limpley Stoke were never in the run chase, Clark made 28 and Underdown, Richards and Tyrie all reached double figures but Limpley Stoke were eventually bowled out for 174 well short of the target.

Limpley Stoke must now regroup before facing Corsley next week and focus on improving their performance on the field instead of trying to beat their previous best "strawpedoe" time. Man of the Match was Nick Twist, Tom Hannell was kit boy and a lively tea was prepared by Owen and Hannell.
