LSCC beaten by team with funny accents

LSCC failed again to seize the opportunity and beat an average but youthful Hanbrook side. On the plus side Simon Richards returned to form in fine style and Ball put his full array of talents clearly on display.

Hanbrook came out aggressively with their two helmeted openers despatching the LSCC bowlers to all sides of the ground. With the field spread Hanbrook were allowed to build a patient innings and coupled with the LSCC fielders being in generous mood they reached a comfortable score of 162. Tim Smith behind the stumps was economical and stood up bravely and skilfully to his bowlers.

With a fairly undaunting total to reach LSCC set about their batting in much the same way as they fielded. Only with the entry of Simon Richards did the quality of the play improve. Ball and Richards went on to build a useful partnership, both hitting boundaries with regularity and their running between the wickets was sensible and fruitful. LSCC were cruising to victory it seemed until Hanbrook delivered the vital breakthrough courtesy of Richards playing on to a rising ball from one of the Hanbrook youngsters.

Dan Ball completed his fifty with some powerful hitting and when he fell LSCC were in the throes of an almighty collapse. No batsman was able to stem the tide of falling wickets and LSCC ended the innings over twenty runs short. Congratulations to Dan Ball on his man of the match and commiserations to Andrew Wilson for being kit-boy.
