The eagerly anticipated re-match against The Canal Tavern awaited LSCC in what started out as a lovely sunny day. With only 9 players present and Twist returning from Essex, captain Gregory didn't want to be taking the field, fortunately Canal Tavern won the toss and elected to field.

Smith and Tyrie, who replaced Twist as opener for the day, took the new ball and Tyrie, on his special day didn't last long and was caught at point for 5. Smith was joined by Richards S and they took the game to the bowlers with a flurry of fours and mighty sixes in an excellent passage of batting. Both players passed the fifty mark and were scoring quickly, and after well over a 100 runs had been added Richards S was finally out bowled by the younger Bryant for 69 who then bowled Clark for 4 soon after. That was a minor blip as Richards A joined Smith and they tore into the bowling in a dashing array of drives and pulls. Richards A was eventually out for 49 and Smith went on to make another century against Canal Tavern even though he claimed he was not in the zone. LSCC posted a daunting total of 256 from their 40 overs.

Tea was then taken and the weather turned. Play was stalled for 10 minutes until Captain Gregory hauled his team onto the pitch and demanded they play in the Siberian conditions.

Twist was given the new ball and with his second delivery removed the opener, clean bowled, making a bold statement of intent. Twist continued to bowl with aggression, so much so a supporter enquired if it was in fact Steve Harmison bowling. In his 8 over spell he leaked just 8 runs and picked up 4 wickets leaving sorry Tavern in disarray. The one blot on Twist's bowling display was the bowling of fast beamers aimed directly at the batsmen, reminiscent of the late Roy Gilchrist the controversial West Indian fast bowler born this day in 1938. Hannell opened the bowling from the other end with his fast improving spin and caused the batsmen a lot of trouble and in a good 8 over spell picked up the prize wicket of Pat Sharp. Tyrie and Gregory replaced the opening pair smelling blood and Tyrie bowled well picking up 2 wickets, Gregory's overs yielded no such return, wicket less. With the game well beyond their reach Canal Tavern persisted in trying to bat out their overs which is completely pointless, eventually they were all out for 127.

LSCC gave them a right thumping and deservedly so, they batted and bowled excellently, personified by Smith with his century and Twist with his destructive opening spell of bowling.
