A fine all-round performance saw off the challenge of the Taverners at the BOACG. Clearly the effects of watching Pieterson and co. the week before had rubbed off. Limpley won the toss and elected to bat with openers Smithy and Twisty. Twisty looked rusty or that might just have been his ring after a bout of the runs. Smithy at the other end however was in the runs and looked in good shape to record his third century in succession against the luckless Canal Tav. LSCC reached a comfortable sixty with Twist only contributing four. Smith meanwhile was finding it all rather easy as the sun beat down on a disconsolate Canal Tav field. All of a sudden though Twist found his true form and joined Smithy in the run fest. Eventually Twist was caught on 36 and one of Limpleys finest opening partnerships had drawn to a close. Richards S entered the field and threatened to break his run of bad form before being caught and bowled for 6 by Stanley the Kiwi cabinet maker. Bush made his trademark quickfire 19 and then Richards A contributed a useful 13. Owen rounded off the scoring with a flambouyant 18 not out. Smith had since passed his century and carried his bat, a fine achievement from our batting maestro. After tea Limpleys fine form continued with the ball. Tyrie steamed in like a leaping, demonic, June Whitfield and took a well deserved 4fa 15. Also in the wickets were Bush and Elder who's enthusiasm had a galvanising effect on the rest of the Limpley fielders. Team spirits were high as Limpley enjoyed an afternoon without the sniping that plagues the team when Gregory plays and Canal Tav were bowled out for 72 well short of the target. Man of the match went to Smithy understandably and kitboy was Richards S. Let's hope he has more luck next weekend when he begins a very different type of partnership. Simon Richards |
