A summer evening of cricket for all Local residents are invited to a charity evening of fast-paced cricket at the picturesque Monkton Combe Cricket Ground to raise money for PROPS, a Bristol-based charity. League side Limpley Stoke Cricket Club (LSCC) will take on The Hutchinson Allstars, a team of local businessmen at 4pm on Friday 13 July. PROPS is a rugby-inspired charity based in Bristol that improves the lives of local children and young adults with special needs. The event is being organised by Scott Hutchinson, local businessman and sponsor of LSCC. He said: “The idea is to raise as much money as we can for PROPS and provide an enjoyable few hours of cricket. Families will enjoy the fast-paced nature of a Twenty20 cricket match, with plenty of runs and thrilling action. "I first became aware of PROPS last year and was really impressed with the range of projects that they co-ordinate for young people with special needs - I was especially keen to be involved because of the sporting connection" “We’ve put together a one-off team to play against LSCC, for an entertaining way to raise money for the charity.” The team will be captained by Ben White, a Director of local food company Marshfield Bakery, and players include some of Scott's specialist contractors with cricketing backgrounds and a few surprises.” LSCC, a former pub team which began in 1990, joined the North Somerset Cricket League last year. They are currently in first place in the Sunday Conference Division 3. Spectators are invited to watch the game in one of the most charming cricket grounds of the country, with its beautiful thatched pavilion, situated under the Roman viaduct in Limpley Stoke. The cricket ground, belonging to Monkton Combe School, has long been the home pitch for LSCC and this year appears in The Wisden Cricketer 2007 Calendar. All visitors are very welcome – bring a picnic and join in the fun. Refreshments will be available. Tickets are not needed in advance, entry costs £2 payable on the day and the game begins at 4pm.
