Cattle Shows

Below is a list and explanation of the different cattle shows we offer here at the LSAPC. The shows are judged about every 2-4 weeks. Please make sure that you read them carefully before entering the shows!

Open Show
The Open Show is essentially a conformation show for cattle. In it, the cattle are divided up into three groups/breeds: Holstein, Solid, and Spotted. When you enter your cattle, you must enter them in the correct group. You must also submit a picture of your full-grown cow/bull in a show pose with the head either facing to the side or towards the camera. Please do not enter more than four cattle per group/breed per show. The judges will judge the cattle based on how well they fit the LSAPC standard.

Open Show Judging
The judge will carefully look over each entry for a breed and then award a BOB (Best of Breed) and BOS (Best of Opposite Sex) for that breed. Then the judge will move on to the next two and judge the same way. There must be at least three entries to award a BOB or the judge will decide on a DW (Default Winner) for the breed. A DW would have won BOB if there had been enough competition for a win. If there is at least two of the opposite gender of the BOB then the BOS award will be given too. Once all of the cattle have been judged the judge will then look at the BOB and DW cattle and then award BIS (Best in Show) and a RBIS (Reserve Best in Show). The show results will then be posted in the forum.

Open Show Points
You must keep track of your cattle's points yourself, but all the old show results will be archived on the forum and the website to make it easier for you. The points awarded for open shows are as follows:
BIS - 5
RBIS - 4
BOB - 2
BOS - 2
There are no points awarded for DWs.

Specialty Shows
Specialty shows are conformation shows for a specific breed. The rules are the same as the above Open Show except for champions may compete in the Champions Competition class and you are allowed unlimited entry. The entries will be judged on how well they fit the LSAPC breed standard that is set to reflect the real life standards.

Specialty Show Judging
The judge will carefully consider all the entrants and award a BIS (Best in Show). Then the judge will look again at all the cattle of the opposite gender and award a BOS (Best of Opposite Sex). Finally, the judge will relook over the remaining entrants and award AOM (Award of Merit) placements. The results will then be posted on the forum. Please note that BOS is only awarded if there are at least two other entrants of the remaining gender and the AOM placements are only awarded if there are a certain amount remaining entries after the BIS and the BOS have been awarded.

-Champions Competition: In the Champions Competition cattle who have completed their LSAPC championship and have proof (list on LSAPC site). The judge will decide upon a BOB and BOS winner as in the Open Show format. The wins are the same amount as the specialty show points; the difference is that they are going for the GrCH title.

Specialty Award of Merits
The number of AOM placements are determined by how many entries there are in a show. These numbers are the total of all the entrants in one breed. When written on show results there is no order and their gender does not matter.
6-10 - one AOM
11-15 - two AOMs
16-20 - three AOMs
20-30 - four AOMs
31+ - five AOMs

Specialty Show Points
You must keep track of your cattle's points yourself, but all the old show results will be archived on the forum and website to make it easier for you. The points awarded for Specialty Shows are as follows:
BIS/BOB - 4
BOS - 3
AOM - 2

Classics
Classics are big shows that have several classes that you may enter. You may enter any or all of these classes; unless the entry is a champion where they will only be allowed to compete in the Champions Competition. The classes are all judged separately. You can have unlimited entries. The following is an explanation of the rules and judging for each class.

-Conformation: Same rules/judging as the Open Show (listed above), except that you are allowed unlimited entries.

-Progeny: This class is for either a bull or a cow and ONE of his/her progeny. Ideally, the cattle's coloring/markings are somewhat similar. The progeny can either be either a calf or full grown, but must be registered. The parent must be full grown. The age of the progeny will have no impact on the judging. Both cattle must be in show poses, although the pose styles may be different. The pictures must be merged together into one picture, but may NOT overlap. The entrants are judged as a combination of BOTH the parent's and the progeny's conformation, along with the overall appearance of the pair. The judge will award the Best Bull, Reserve Bull, Best Cow, and Reserve Cow. If there is only one progeny entry (of either gender) they will win a DW (Default Winner) and no points.

-Baby Conformation: This class is for calves who are not yet full grown. It follows the same rules/judging as the Open Show (listed above), except that the cattle are not full grown and you are allowed unlimited entries.

-Champions Competition: Only LSAPC cattle champions that have proof (list on LSAPC site) are allowed to compete in this class. Cattle are judged similar to those in the Open Show format though the wins go towards their GrCH title and do not effect any non-champion cattle.
