Rennison, Louise. 2001. On the bright side, I'm now the girlfriend of a sex god. New York: HarperCollins. ISBN: 0-06-028872-8.
Louise Rennison continues the adventures of Georgia Nicolson who was first introduced in Angus Thongs and Full-Frontal Snogging in On the Bright Side, I'm Now The Girlfriend of a Sex God. At the end of the first book, Georgia is happily the secret girlfriend of Robbie. Robbie is four years older than Georgia who is fourteen. However remaining the girlfriend of the sex god is a difficult challenge for Georgia. Robbie can't seem to make up his mind what he wants. He sees how young and immature Georgia isand yet he can't help liking her. Georgia earns another fan in this book, Dave the Laugh. Dave fills the role of boyfriend or snogging partner whenever Georgia and Robbie are broken up. Georgia and her girlfriends love to get together to discuss school, teachers, boys, parents, shopping, fashion, etc. Georgia records her life in a diary. The second book is very similar to the first novel.
The novel is set in England. (Louise Rennison is British.) Each novel contains a glossary written by Georgia which converts British English (and Georgia inventions) into American English. For example, snogging is kissing. The novels have a charm and style all their own. Georgia is immensely likeable. She's a teen who is very self-focused. She is very dramatic. She is always getting in and out of trouble. In this novel, for example, one of the big problems she encounters is a possible move to New Zealand which would destroy the universe if she had to move away from Robbie. Of course, everything works out well for her, the move is averted. The books are humorous and entertaining. There are two more books in the series: Knocked Out By My Nunga-Nungas and Dancing In My Nuddy Pants. All are equally enjoyable and similar in style. If you like one, you'll like them all.
I greatly enjoyed all four of these books. I found them hilarious. I was easily charmed into liking the books because of the fun language. Reading the glossaries are just fun. Georgia definitely has a style all her own. I would definitely recommend these novels.
