| Article 1. Name of Chapter. The name of this chapter of Phi Theta Kappa shall be Kappa Tau, as assigned by the National Headquarters upon approval of the chartering application. Article 2. Purpose. The purpose of Kappa Tau shall be to recognize and encourage scholarship among Longview students. In working toward this goal, Kappa Tau shall provide opportunity for the devlopement of leadership and service, intellectual climate for exchange of ideas, lively fellowship for scholars, and stimulation of interest in continuing education. Article 3. Membership. Section 1. Membership in the Kappa Tau chapter shall consist of member, provisional member, alumni member, honorary member, and enhanced member. a. Member. Each candidate for membership must have completed twelve semester hours of associate degree work at Longview Community College, with a cumulative grade point average of 3.0.The member must follow the school conduct code and possess recognized qualities of citizenship. The member must maintain a grade point average of 3.0. When a member's cumulative grade point average (GPA) falls below 3.0, the member has one semester to raise that average to at least a 3.0. If the GPA is not raised by the end of the probationary semester, the member's name shall be stricken from the local chapter roll, as well as the national roll maintained by Phi Theta Kappa National Headquarters. b. Provisional Member. A provisional member may be accepted on the basis of prior academic performance. Generally, these are incoming freshmen or transfer students who have not yet completed a term at a two-year college. In order to becme a provisional member, a student must be enrolled in an associate's degree or certificate program at Longview Community College,adhere to school conduct code, and possess recognized qualities of citizenship. Provisional members will not be affiliated with the national organization of Phi Theta Kappa, cannot hold offices and cannot vote on chapter, regional and national matters. Provisional members will pay local non-refundable dues or regional dues until have qualified for full membership. c. Alumni Member. Alumni membership shall be former members |
