I. Intro
METROID and METROID 3 (Super Metroid) from Nintendo
rank at the top of classic gaming. The METROID series is completely opposite
from Nintendo's trademark of making children games such as MARIO and ZELDA,
having more of a dark feel as heard in the game music and as seen in the
graphics. As for the music, the original music composer Hirokazu
"Hip" Tanaka created an unique atmospheric sound that made playing
the first game more enjoyable. In addition, the METROID series are the
only games of Nintendo that comes close to nudity, beating the games in
a specific amount of time will have Samus in a beach bikini. To put it
simply, METROID was the start of orienting video games toward teenagers
and young adults to generate greater profit. A game series placed in the
category of classic retro gaming.
This page consists of MIDI music, images, passwords, codes and downloads
of METROID 1 and 3. For game play, go to download section
for emulator and ROM. Emulators are programs that emulate (play) ROM's
(video games) from arcade and video game console systems... NES, SNES,
N64, PSX, Genesis, NeoGeo, etc. Any questions or comments, please

II. METROID
What made the first game so great? First, no one thought the main character
would be female. It was very much shock value. When the ending came up
with the time completed and the helmet came off, most boys wanted to see
if anymore armor could come off Samus Aran... yeah, it was boyish curiousity.
This was intentional by game developers to keep those eyes glued to the
screen. In all of the game, the character is in armor. You had no clue
of the identity, but assumed it to be male. Then, there are sequences where
you get stuck and had no clue on how to solve the puzzle until after a
couple dozen tries or by way of a walkthrough guide. One good example is
on how to kill a Metroid, the wave beam had no ill effect on the creatures.
Since the Nintendo gaming audience are young children and teens, it took
awhile for us to figure out how to kill Metroids by way of ice beam and
then missiles. Another reason why the game is such a classic is the mystery
behind finding passwords, secret areas and the hope of finding weapon upgrades
somewhere in the game. Secret areas became true by way of a glitch in the
game program... though, no such luck for hidden weapons or items. As for
passwords, many thought there were hidden passwords and they were right.
A few had Samus without the armor. Some thought there was one that made
Samus naked so they spent a lot of time on the password entry screen.
II.a. Story (from Instruction
Manual)
In year 2000 of the history of the cosmos, representatives from many
different planets in the galaxy established a congress called Galactic
Federation, and an age of prosperity began. A successful exchange of cultures
+ civilization resulted + thousands of interstellar spaceships ferried
back and forth between planets. But space pirates also appeared to attack
spaceships. The Federal Bureau created the Galactic Federation Police,
but pirates' attacks were powerful + it was not easy to catch them in the
vastness of space. The Federation Bureau and Federation Police called together
warriors known for their great courage + sent them to do battle with the
pirates. These great warriors were called "space hunters." They received
large rewards when they captured pirates, and made their living as space
bounty hunters.
It is now year 20X5 of the history of the cosmos, and something terrible
has happened. Space pirates attacked a deep space research spaceship +
seized a capsule containing an unknown life form that had just been discovered
on planet SR388. This life form is in a state of suspended animation, but
can be reactivated + will multiply when exposed to beta rays for 24 hours.
It is suspected that the entire civilization of planet SR388 was destroyed
by some unknown person or thing, and there is a strong possibility that
the life form just discovered was the cause of the planet's destruction.
To carelessly let it multiply would be extremely dangerous. Federation
researchers had named it "Metroid" + were bringing it back to Earth when
it was stolen by space pirates!
If Metroid is multiplied by space pirates + then used as a weapon,
the entire galactic civilization will be destroyed. After a desperate search,
Federation Police have at last found pirates' headquarters, the fortress
planet Zebes, and launched a general attack. But pirates' resistance is
strong, and the Police have been unable to take the planet. Meanwhile,
in a room hidden deep within center of the fortress, preparations for multiplying
the Metroid are progressing steadily. As a last resort, Federation Police
decided to send a space hunter to penetrate the center of the fortress
+ destroy Mother Brain. The space hunter chosen for this mission is Samus
Aran. He is the greatest of all space bounty hunters + has successfully
completed numerous missions that everybody thought were absolutely impossible.
He is a cyborg. His entire body has been surgically strengthened with robotics,
giving him superpowers. Even space pirates fear his space suit, which can
absorb any enemies power. But his true form is shrouded in mystery.
Planet Zebes is a natural fortress. Its sides are covered with a special
kind of stone, and its interior is a complicated maze. On top of that,
the pirates planted devices + booby traps in the maze, and pirates' eerie
followers lie in wait around every corner. Samus has now succeeded in penetrating
Zebes. But time is running out. Will Samus be able to destroy the METROID
+ save the galaxy?
