| More Things To Consider and REMEMBER Bad Habbits To Replace |
||||||||||||||||
| After the Support Group Meeting last night I thought of a few things I wanted to make sure I put down on here so I would have them to look back at from time to time. I need to remember how I got this way. I don't remember the weight coming on, it seems like I just blocked out what was happening. I didn't talk about it, didn't look in the mirror and access myself honestly. I just started not liking myself and eating was all I seemed to have. I would "keep busy" with the kids or the computer or some other project that "had to have" my attention! And ignored *myself* I have to make myself a priority. I have to remember that shopping healthy will not be considered child abuse! (My son says he isn't so sure of that!) I have a right to demand everyone put effort into eating well and not having junk around like chips and soda all the time. I know my kids love pasta but that won't be served as much as it use to be and it is not to much to ask of my family. In making myself a priority I have to put my exercise time at the front of the line! My world won't fall apart if I take an hour or two a day or three times a week to go to the pool and exercise. Either being healthy is important to me or it isn't but I can't make excuses for not putting in the time and effort. Another thing is You can't just break habits you have to "Replace" them with better ones or when times get tough you will go back to the old ones. Stop Yourself From Going Back To Old Habits I need a hobby that can keep me busy. Something that can take the place of my hand going to my mouth all the time. Once I get down I can go for a walk or exercise. Its the first few months that worry me. I hope this surgery alone will help a lot at first. But Habits have to be replaced not just broken. If they aren't replaced then stress, anger or "socialness" will drive us back to our old unhealthy habits. You can't just say "I won't eat do to stress," you have to have a PLAN. I recomend reading "7 Keys to Weight Loss" by Dr. Phil. I'm NOT a Dr. Phil fan but I heard great things about this book so I bought it and I'm glad I did. I consider it another very good tool that will work hand in hand with the surgery. TOP TEN REASONS NOT TO EXERCISE . oh I'm sore, . I'm tired, I was up so late last night I just can't work out today . I have a headache, I don't feel good . I have to take the kids here or there, . I need to go shopping, . I have to clean this or do the these things today , "I just don't have time to work-out" . Its to cold to go outside, . Its to hot to even think about exercising, . I've really been wanting to see this show thats coming on. . Oh I'll just Go TOMORROW, Missing ONE time won't hurt! I think its easy once you get use to a certin way of eating to stop journaling. I need to keep up the daily journal thing. I can't risk "not paying attention" can't risk the blinders going on and fooling myself again. Five Very Important Tools 1. Journal 2. Support Group 3. Working Out! 4. Someone you see everyday that can be honest and you feel comfortable talking to about your weight 5. Looking in the mirror making at least twice a day and making possitive choices to fill my day. These have to stay in my life. I don't want to obsess about my weight I want to just live. But at the same time I can't ever go back to being the way I was so I have to be alert. Breaking the Grazing Habbit After surgery if you find yoursle grazing you can drink water, that will help you get in your water and postpone your snack for at least 30-45 mins. Drinking the water should help you get that "full" feeling. If you still don't get a "full" feeling then you could add 1/4 cup of rice to your meal. . |
